Description

The bubinga shell, highly regarded for its dark, deep tone and powerful, mid-low range sound, is molded into an ultra-thin 4.5mm shell. In addition, a 9mm thick sound focus ring is installed on the inner surface of the shell to enhance its vibration efficiency and achieve rich resonance.

Shells / STAR Bubinga
The bubinga shell, which was added to the Starclassic series in 2006, has gained worldwide acclaim for its distinctive dark and deep tone and powerful, mid-low range sound. The STAR series uses this shell material, but with a much thinner shell than the Starclassic.
Not only the toms, but also the bass drum and snare drum all feature thin 4.5mm shells. In addition, a 9mm thick sound focus ring is fitted to the inside of the shell to enhance the shell's vibration efficiency and achieve rich resonance. The STAR bubinga shell, which pursues even greater resonance, is characterized by a clear sound with a distinct fundamental tone.

Bearing Edges
In order to accurately transmit the vibrations from striking the drum to the shell and achieve a richer sound, the shape of the bearing edge, which is the point of contact between the drumhead and the shell, is an extremely important factor.
STAR Drums' bearing edges feature a rounder shape for the contact surface with the drumhead compared to conventional TAMA drums. Furthermore, by setting the apex of the edge 3.5mm from the outside of the shell, the contact area between the drumhead and the shell is increased, allowing the vibrations of the drumhead to be transmitted to the shell more efficiently.

Snappy Bed
The bottom side of a snare drum has a groove called a snare bed to improve the response of the snare wires, and its shape is an important factor in determining the snare sound, especially the sustain and nuance of the snare wires.
STAR Drums snare drums feature an original shape that differs from the shapes used in conventional TAMA drums. To maximize the resonance of the shell and achieve a clear sound with good articulation, a larger flat surface area is used so that the entire snare wire makes contact with the head surface as evenly as possible.

Air Hole
STAR series snare drums feature three air holes located in the horizontal center of the shell. Compared to shells with a single air hole, this produces a brighter, drier sound.

・Newly Designed One-Piece Lug
The newly designed lugs are a bridge type, featuring a compact design that minimizes the contact surface with the shell. By using smaller lugs, the weight of the snare drum itself is reduced, and both the 13" and 14" models are deliberately designed with an 8-tension specification. By reducing the number of parts, the shell's inherent potential is more open and resonant. The result is a delicate touch that captures even the slightest sage, and rich expressiveness.

・MLS50A Linear-Drive Strainer
This strainer successfully minimizes the contact noise caused by the snare wires hitting the bottom head, even when the lever is moved quickly. It employs a structure that ensures the snare wires make firm contact with the head without putting unnecessary strain on the shell or strainer.

Die-Cast Hoops
The highly rigid zinc die-cast hoop maintains a perfectly perpendicular contact surface between the head and the hoop, allowing for sensitive tuning. The clear, powerful sound with a distinct fundamental tone is also a major attraction.

Hold Tight Washers
The combination of stainless steel washers and rubber rings completely prevents tuning from loosening during performance. The elasticity of the rubber rings absorbs the impact of shots, ensuring that the hoop and tension bolts are always in close contact. This prevents tuning problems caused by shell vibrations.

・Super Sensitive Hi-Carbon Snappy Snare
By achieving high responsiveness to the snare head and a perfect balance of excellent grip and crisp resonance, it delivers a light and sharp sound. It also achieves a delicate touch that captures even the most intricate passages and rich expressiveness.

Drum Heads
The drumheads used are from REMO.
