Description
Description
"BLACK SMOKER" is a handmade brand from BLACK CLOUD, a workshop in Nagano Prefecture, a mecca for musical instrument manufacturing where many brands are located. This brand has already gained popularity among many professional musicians for its sophisticated and high-quality sound, playability, and looks. It's a notable brand created by three people: CEO Kuroiwa, who has been involved in the design and manufacturing of numerous manufacturers and models, young builder Yanagisawa, who collaborates with him, and builder Itasaka, who has worked for a long-established Japanese brand.
The specs are simple, based on a 60s JB, with an alder body and maple neck, but the fact that the materials were carefully selected is obvious as soon as you play a note. The neck shape is slim for ease of playability, but doesn't lose its core sound, the original pickups produce a full sound while accurately reproducing the resonance of the body, and the smooth setup allows for stress-free playing. Overall, this bass directly conveys the "quality of construction" of the instrument itself.
The mini-switch for switching between series and parallel pickups isn't gimmicky with an excessive boost, but rather produces a usable sound in either position. It has a rich resonance without excessive peaking, making it a guitar that can be used for any style of performance, regardless of genre or sound, depending on the settings and playing style.
It features a neat black matching headstock, a black 3-ply pickguard, and an ebony fingerboard, giving it a straight, satisfying sound with a strong attack.
The Standard series, which differs from the TradMaster in specifications with a 34.5-inch scale, polyurethane finish, and 21 frets, has a crisp attack and a dense sound, so the 5th string low B doesn't get lost, and it has a strong presence even when blended into a band ensemble.
This is a highly sought-after brand, with limited production numbers due to its handcrafted construction. Professionals recognize this bass for both its playability and sound, and the quality that has already made a name for itself in the bass world is something you should definitely try out.
