Description

The DS-1 Distortion: A seasoned engineer rediscovers the origins of distortion.

The DS-1 is a legendary pedal with over 40 years of history, having debuted in 1978 as BOSS's first distortion pedal. Its sharp distortion and rich sustain are the very essence of distortion, and it has supported the feet of countless legendary guitarists. The DS-1W features a newly designed 2-stage gain circuit, meticulously crafted by skilled engineers using full analog discrete components. In addition to the standard mode, which delivers the iconic distortion sound, it includes a custom mode with tuning to further unlock its potential. While maintaining the sound character of the DS-1, it delivers a distortion sound with a powerful midrange. WAZA craftsmanship, back to the origins of distortion.

The DS-1, with its orange color and enduring popularity across generations and genres, is synonymous with distortion pedals, demonstrating not only its iconic status as a distortion effect but also its high level of perfection as a musical instrument. Its distortion sound, possessing a crispness and sustain unlike previous pedals, enabled tight backing and soaring solos. For over 40 years since its debut in 1978, it has been a legendary pedal, beloved as a guitarist's ultimate partner in all genres, including hard rock, metal, fusion, and grunge.

Two modes expand the range of uses.
The DS-1W features two modes: Standard and Custom. Both modes utilize a newly designed, fully analog, discrete two-stage gain circuit created by skilled engineers. The Standard mode excels when you want tight, clean backing with heavy distortion. The Custom mode shines in situations where you need a thicker sound, such as modern riffs and guitar solos. It delivers a powerful sound characterized by rich midrange while maintaining the iconic sharp distortion and sustain. By switching between the two modes, you can play with the ideal distortion sound for any situation.

Standard Mode: The origin of distortion. In Standard Mode, you can play with the original DS-1 sound. The crisp yet smooth distortion is a sound that many guitarists love. In addition to using it on its own, connecting it to a distorted amp as a gain booster will give you a dynamic and beautiful distortion sound infused with the essence of the DS-1. By adjusting the balance of the frequency range with the unique TONE knob that controls the low and high frequencies simultaneously, you can flexibly shape the sound to suit the band ensemble and the amp you are using.

Custom Mode: Adding new appeal to the DS-1
The DS-1W's Custom Mode maintains the sharp distortion and sustain characteristic of the DS-1 while delivering a new sound character and response. The midrange is more prominent, giving it a strong presence within a band ensemble. Furthermore, the picking response is quicker, and nuances are reflected more faithfully. Even with the same settings, a wide range of expression is possible, from crunch to deep distortion, depending on the picking strength. The TONE knob has also been specially tuned to allow for adjustments that take advantage of the Custom Mode's character. In addition, the LEVEL knob has an expanded control range of up to +6dB compared to the Standard Mode, making it effective as a booster to powerfully push amplifiers and distortion effects.
