Description
"It's been a dream of mine for years to create a guitar that combines the vintage specs I love with modern spirit and beauty. After two years of research and refinement, the Silver Sky is the realization of my vision to reboot the electric guitar in the way it should look and feel. John Mayer"
The SILVER SKY, which inspired John Mayer to describe it, is a vintage single-coil guitar with all the specs you'd expect, yet stands apart from the image of the past, representing the ideal guitar. It's the result of several years of close collaboration between Grammy Award-winning musicians John Mayer and Paul Reed Smith. While incorporating the specs of the 1963 and '64 models they both adore, their focus remains on modern standards, resulting in a model that combines the warmth and familiarity of vintage guitars with the precision of modern models. This particular model, the "SE SILVER SKY," has been produced as part of the SE Series thanks to changes in materials and parts.
The bolt-on body features poplar with contoured top and back, a scarf-jointed maple neck with a rosewood fingerboard featuring small bird inlays, and features the same "635JM" neck carve as the US model, a slightly flatter 8.5-inch fingerboard radius (compared to the original 7.25R), a contoured cutaway on the first string side, and a rounded joint for excellent playability from low to high positions.
The trademark PRS headstock has been redesigned to suit John Mayer's playing style. It features a reverse-shaped design to minimize interference with the hand during intense bending in the low position. The truss rod cover is a PRS original design, and the nut is the same thick PRS nut as the Custom.
The hardware features original parts such as non-locking vintage-style tuning machines, a designed joint plate, and control knobs. While the US model features a six-point tremolo, the SE model features a two-point tremolo. This improves tuning stability and smooth arm action, while the vintage-style pressed saddles produce a rich, brilliant sound.
Equipped with three 635JM "S" single-coil pickups, originally designed for the SE, this versatile guitar aims for a mid-'60s vintage tone and also produces a thick, drive sound.
The pop color variations and specs that don't make it feel like a low-cost model are the result of the sound of a model that was completed with great care by John Mayer and Paul Reed Smith.
Please take this opportunity to consider it.
*As for the condition, there are no dents or other damage to the frets, and more than 80% of the frets remain. There is also ample room for the truss rod.
The electrical system is also in good condition, the pickguard and back panel still have film on them, and overall it shows relatively little signs of use, with only small, shallow scratches.
*Please refer to the photos for any particularly noticeable scratches.
