FAQ

Description

Produced from 1983 to 1991, the HM-2 Heavy Metal is a legendary classic that has left its mark on the history of distortion pedals. The chainsaw tone achieved with all knobs turned up established it as a core sound of Swedish death metal music. It's also highly regarded by shoegaze guitarists who create thick walls of distortion. Driven by passionate requests from these dedicated fans, BOSS decided to revive the HM-2 as part of the Waza Craft series. The HM-2W perfectly recreates the analog distortion sound of the original, with a specially tuned Custom mode.

Released in 1983, amid the unprecedented heavy metal boom, the HM-2 was a one-of-a-kind pedal that recreated the sound of early '80s British stack amps beloved by metal guitarists. The unique, aggressive mid-focused sound of the HM-2 caught the attention of Swedish death metal guitarists and soon became a core component of Swedish death metal. Calls for the revival of the era-defining HM-2 grew, including among the next generation of guitarists, and BOSS finally answered those passionate requests with a relaunch of the HM-2 as part of the Waza Craft series.

Standard Mode: HM-2 Sound Faithful to the Original. Standard mode perfectly recreates the tone and response of the original HM-2. With all knobs set to maximum, you'll experience that resonant chainsaw tone. Modern technology has also been incorporated to enhance every aspect of the pedal. Ground noise has been reduced while the maximum LEVEL limit has been increased by 3dB. A premium buffer also ensures a pure guitar sound when bypassed. The HM-2W thoroughly refines the pedal's fundamental performance without compromising the original's distinctive character.

Custom Mode: Even More Aggressive Distortion Custom Mode maintains the character of Standard Mode while providing even more aggressive distortion. Special tuning of the gain circuitry provides even more powerful distortion while emphasizing the sharpness and attack of the sound. The characteristics of the low and high-mid frequencies have also been retuned, resulting in a sound that combines high density and clarity.

Inheriting the iconic look
The HM-2W is a tribute to not only its sound but also its appearance. Not only does it retain its iconic color scheme, but even the size and placement of the panel lettering is faithful to the original. And the mode switch found on all Waza Craft series pedals has been relocated to the top rather than the top panel, preserving the original design without compromising its presence.
