Description

A nostalgic style JJ 4-string guitar typical of MOON. This guitar was custom ordered from our shop and is based on a favorite instrument of our staff.

Moon, a long-established Japanese bass workshop, has crafted basses for many renowned bassists, including those designed for Larry Graham, Mitsuru Sudo, and Randy Hope Taylor. This JJ model features a high-quality ash body, an ebony fingerboard, a 21-fret deep joint, and a slant-mounted front pickup. Veteran bassists will enjoy the feel of the Moon of yesteryear. Younger bassists will also find this guitar a unique and striking instrument, in a positive way.

The high-quality white ash body, tightly packed maple neck and fingerboard, and precisely set joints fully capture the dynamics of the body, producing a thick, tight bass tone whether played with fingers or slapped. The gloss poly finish gives it a chunky tone with just the right amount of compression, reminiscent of the classic Moon.

The pickups are Ogyzalis JB-Custom, and the preamp is a Bartolini XTCT. The slant-mounted front pickup alone produces a crisp, deep tone reminiscent of a P-bass, while the bridge pickup alone produces a crisp, powerful, and sharp tone. The sound is well-balanced and wide-ranging from low to high frequencies, and the simple 2-band EQ controls are just what you need, creating a sound reminiscent of the classic Moon Bass.

Another distinctive feature of this model is the direct, straight bass that resonates through the soundboard's lack of a pickguard. The silver nut bridges the gap between fretted and open strings, making this a Moon-ready guitar. This particular model was ordered based on a staff member's favorite, older JJ guitar. The combination of solid black and gold hardware evokes the Moon of yesteryear, while the Gotoh bridge and Ogyzalís pickups give it a modern feel. This model offers a truly exceptional feeling of exhilaration when you strike it. Give it a try!
