The Fender Custom Shop is a section established in 1987 to create the finest guitars under the Fender brand, using carefully selected materials from the wood sourced by Fender, and employing traditional handcrafting techniques and advanced manufacturing methods. Inheriting the long history and traditions of Fender, this section offers a lineup of truly top-of-the-line instruments, including one-of-a-kind models like the Masterbuilder Series, assembled by a limited number of staff. Many of the tools used in production are original and have been in use since the company's inception. The instruments, crafted with the dedication of staff deeply familiar with Fender guitar know-how, boast exceptional quality and sound that will satisfy any player, becoming a reliable companion for a lifetime.

This 2020 model is based on the 1960 model, which featured a rosewood fingerboard. The body is made of carefully selected alder wood, chosen specifically for Custom Shop products, and features a closet classic finish with a thin layer of nitrocellulose lacquer. While possessing a rich, full acoustic resonance that cannot be achieved with NOS models, it delivers a vintage-like sound that replicates the aging process while maintaining mint condition.

The quarter-sawn maple neck uses excellent wood that produces rigidity and a rich tone. The fingerboard is made of birdseye maple, which is rare for a 1960s model. The fingerboard radius is a compound radius of 7.25R-9.5R, which was rarely seen on vintage guitars. The frets are medium jumbo size, which offers modern playability and a wide range of adjustability.

The pickups are hand-wound humbuckers by Josefina Campos, a leading craftsman at the Fender Custom Shop, in the neck position, and hand-wound Texas Specials in the middle and bridge positions. While the look is eye-catching, it's surprisingly easy to play, and the combination of the humbucker, which combines clarity and warmth, with the thick and powerful Texas Special single-coil pickups from Fender is superb. The dramatic sound of this layout truly embodies the essence of music.

This particular guitar has a classic closet finish, making it difficult to determine if any damage is recent. There are some minor dents, the frets have about 70% remaining, and the electronics and playability are in good working order. There are a couple of small stand marks on the side of the lower headstock. With its clearly audible resonance, high-quality materials, and the wide range of specifications and color options available only at the Fender Custom Shop, this might be your last chance to get one!
