Description

The legendary 2500 stereo/2-channel compressor now features new features. A long-awaited update

The classic 2500 stereo bus compressor has been updated to the 2500+. The 2500+ is a classic API compressor used on many tracks to add powerful punch to the tone of your stereo mix, and many engineers have described its sound as "magical."

The 2500+ now features a Mix/Blend function, a feature highly requested by many professionals. Two different modes allow you to blend the dry and wet signals for effective parallel compression.

●OUTPUT
・Mix/Blend
The new 2500+ model incorporates the Mix/Blend function, a result of feedback from many engineers. This is the so-called Dry/Wet mix function. Many professionals have been requesting this feature for the 2500. Now, you can achieve effective parallel compression without using a bus channel or worrying about wiring loss during routing.

*Mix/Blend has three modes to choose from*
- OFF = No dry signal, only compressed signal (wet sound)
- X (Cross) = The MIX control crossfades between the dry and wet sounds, with minimal volume change.
- II (Parallel) = 100% dry sound, with the wet sound added using the MIX knob. This is similar to feeding the wet sound with a fader on a mixing console.

・GAIN
The output stage is equipped with an API Auto Make-Up Gain button, which automatically adjusts the compression ratio and threshold level to maintain a constant output level. The main path uses a fully discrete design to achieve high-quality sound, and the front panel is equipped with a mechanical VU meter that displays input, output, and gain reduction levels.

●TONE
・New or Old
The 2500+ offers two types of compression: New and Old.
Old uses feedback type gain reduction, as found in the API 525, 1176 and Fair Child.
New uses a feedforward type, similar to other popular compressors.

・THRUST(R)
api's patented THRUST(R) circuit changes the behavior of the compressor's high and low frequencies according to the spectral energy of the input source, allowing you to provide optimal compression for a variety of sources.
THRUST(R) works by placing a filter designed based on a pink noise curve before the RMS detection circuit.
The curve is set to cut low frequency energy and boost high frequencies.
For example, by targeting the high frequencies of cymbals or acoustics, you can achieve a smooth top end, and on a drum bus you can suppress the top end while reducing low-frequency pumping to achieve a punchy drum sound.
You can choose from three types of filters to suit the sound source: NORM, MED, and LOUD, which do not insert a filter.

●LINK
・Stereo Link
The 2500 has a dual channel design, allowing you to use each unit separately or in stereo.
The strength of the left and right stereo link can also be selected between 0% and 100% (fixed position, 7 locations). This minimizes shifts in the center image while aligning the left and right levels of chorus and acoustic guitar.
The Shape switch also allows you to change the response speed of the L/R CV link.
