Freedom Custom Guitar Research combines advanced instrument-making techniques with extensive knowledge of guitar mechanics and sound. They carefully select only the finest woods, and each stage, from seasoning (drying and adjusting the wood) crucial for neck stability, to precise woodworking, painting, and setup, is handled by specialized experts. Their uncompromising, high-quality, handmade basses have earned the deep trust of professional musicians.
This 5-string model from the Retro series has received high praise from professionals.
Originally, this was an Active JB5 with an alder/rosewood body, JB-type pickups, an original preamp, and a vintage bridge with spiral saddles. However, the previous owner had the pickups, assembly, and bridge replaced by a professional. The tuners were originally HIPSHOT paddle type, and the neck is a '66 style with celluloid/dot finish.
The pickups are Bartolini PB-type and dual J-type pickups, with the wood cavity routed out. The preamp has been completely rebuilt with a passive circuit after removing the entire control plate. With a master volume, 3-way pickup selector (rotary switch), tone control, and rear pickup wiring switch (60's position single-coil / 70's position single-coil / parallel / series), you can enjoy a wide range of tones despite it being a passive circuit.
There is a small paint chip on the headstock, some minor scratches and scuffs on the body, and faint traces of the original bridge's mounting are visible, but there is no major damage, and overall it has a very clean appearance. The neck also has some light scratches, but is in very good condition. The fretboard and frets are also in excellent condition.
The neck is in good condition, the truss rod is working well, and there are no concerns about the frets or electronics.
The wooden part of the pickup section has been sanded down and cannot be restored to its original condition, hence the discounted price.
