Description
Description
There is probably no other manufacturer that can bring out the beauty of cocobolo wood in such a profound and captivating way as Alembic.
This is the top-of-the-line "Series II" SSB, following the specifications of Stanley Clarke's "Dragon's Breath."
The vermilion (padauk) semi-hollow construction and the heavy cocobolo body wings are denser than those made of mahogany koa, resulting in a more resilient sound. Like other SSB guitars, it delivers a thick, rich sound that is hard to believe comes from a short-scale instrument.
We occasionally feature models with the same body and the Signature circuit, but this particular instrument retains that solid, substantial feel while sounding even lighter. Not only when both pickups are mixed, but even when the front pickup is played alone, it possesses a depth of character reminiscent of high-quality vintage instruments, and the superb bass sound, which is super clear and contains rich harmonics, is a privilege only its top model can enjoy.
The maple through-neck, which extends straight to the end of the body, features a 1.5-inch wide narrow neck design and luxuriously uses three forbidden ebony stripes, just like Mr. Clark's own model.
The "inlaid logo," seamlessly integrated with the mirror-like smooth surface, possesses a captivating beauty and depth that draws you in the more you look at it, exuding a quiet presence that transcends its value as an option.
This "Series" circuit-equipped unit utilizes the dedicated DS-5 power supply unit, allowing it to operate at nearly double the voltage (equivalent to rack-mounted preamps) – ±15V to 20V – compared to the usual +18V battery power. This results in unparalleled headroom and dynamic range compared to other active basses.
Furthermore, the Series II not only offers stepless control of the filter Q via a knob, compared to the Series I where the Q is selectable with a 3-way switch, but also includes many of the options that are an upcharge on the Series I in the base price, indicating that it is positioned as the top-of-the-line model.
This is a world-class short-scale bass that exudes absolute reliability in every aspect, from its high standard as an instrument to its presence, unique sound, and balance.
