Description
Description
He is a former president of the International Trombone Society. He served as principal trombonist of the prestigious London Symphony Orchestra for 31 years, and has contributed to the training of musicians at institutions such as the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and the Youth Symphony Orchestra. He is also known as the author of trombone instruction books.
He is also active as a conductor of brass and wind ensembles. Leveraging his extensive knowledge and experience in instrumental performance, he develops mouthpieces and mutes at Denis Wick, the company he founded.
Denis Wick mutes are handcrafted by skilled artisans, ensuring consistently high quality in terms of sound and pitch.
When Denis Wick was actively performing with the London Symphony Orchestra, he would create prototypes and test them out with the orchestra.
The current straight mute design originated when composer B. Britten, who was present at the time, exclaimed, "This is the sound I've been looking for!"
■ Denis Wick's aluminum straight mutes are loved by brass players worldwide for their traditional straight mute tone.
Straight mutes with a brass bottom produce a brighter tone compared to aluminum mutes.
Furthermore, brass and copper are heavier than aluminum, making them suitable for situations where you want to project sound over long distances or where a powerful sound is needed, such as in an orchestra.
