It can be played using almost the same techniques as woodwind instruments such as the saxophone and clarinet.
A special sensor that responds to the pressure applied to the mouthpiece and the strength of the breath allows for subtle control of pitch, tone quality, and volume, fully conveying the player's expressiveness.
It features a touch plate for easy pitch bending and glide effects, as well as an octave roller that allows shifting across an 8-octave range.
Touch-sensitive keys allow for faster playing than is possible with mechanical keys.
Because it has built-in effects such as reverb and delay in addition to sound sources, you can start playing immediately by simply connecting the cables without needing to prepare external sound sources or effects pedals.
Since it operates on batteries (4 x AA batteries), it can be used in combination with a commercially available wireless system to play without cables.

The EWI4000s wind synthesizer is a revolutionary electronic instrument that allows for highly expressive performances by blowing air into it, just like a wind instrument. Special sensors that respond to the pressure applied to the mouthpiece and the strength of the breath allow for subtle control of pitch, tone, and volume. Furthermore, it features eight parameter knobs—Filter, Breath, Bite, Semi, Fine, Reverb, Chorus, and LFO—allowing for fine-tuning of each to fully convey the player's expressive capabilities.

Easy fingering for effortless playing: Using the same fingerings as the familiar recorder, even beginners can easily start playing. It also features fingering modes for instruments such as the trumpet, saxophone, flute, and oboe, so experienced wind instrument players can immediately start playing with familiar fingerings.

It enables highly expressive performances similar to wind instruments. Various sensors allow for dynamic playing, capturing the expressive nuances of wind instruments, including pitch changes, volume variations, vibrato, glide, and tonguing techniques.
