At first glance, this guitar strap appears to be for heavy metal or hard rock bands, but what year was it created?
This guitar strap dates back to 1964 and was designed for John Lennon by VOX, the company that supplied the Beatles with amplifiers at the time.
RightOn!STRAPS has created a comfortable version of the LEGEND JL Python that still looks the same.
According to the book "Beatles Gear," Dick Denny and Tom Jennings, primarily Denny, designed a guitar strap featuring python snakeskin scales (hence the name) at Lennon's request.
And work began after a brass prototype failed.
The second strap was made longer and chrome plated.
Hats off to Dick and Tom for how difficult it is to make a strap like this.
As Denny explains in his book, two straps were made: one black with chrome metal parts and one brown leather with gold scales.
Once completed, they gave them to The Beatles, and John Lennon kept the black and chrome python strap.
In general, there is very little documentation about guitar straps and their origins, and they are rarely mentioned.
However, what made this strap special was that it attracted the attention of fans who imitated the Beatles, the kings of the music scene at the time, and who copied everything from their behavior to their clothing and hairstyle, and who wanted to acquire anything related to the Beatles.
This was on a Dutch TV show in June 1964, when John first used his new 12-string Rickenbacker 325 with a Vox Python strap.
This strap was unrelated to John's other guitars, as Denny said, "John used a Python strap, but I think it was a little heavy." He used the Python guitar strap for about a year, but stopped using it because of its weight.
We've reinterpreted this strap to create a comfortable, lightweight, non-leather cool and durable strap that John Lennon would undoubtedly have worn for years to come.
