■Feature article
The 49th All Japan Ensemble Contest was held at the Hiroshima Bunka Gakuen HBG Hall. 77 groups, recommended from 11 branches across the country, performed.
We present the event with stage photos and comments from the three judges.
■Feature 1
• Teaching techniques to make music more enjoyable: Let's play songs together, even for beginners!
For all the new club members who have just decided on their instruments, the most important thing is to start "making music" from the very beginning.
Why not try a different approach to practice so that beginners and advanced players can enjoy the joy of making music together?
●What instructors can do: Yoshihisa Fujishige ●Innovations in school settings: Ryotaro Shiratsuki, Shinji Hattori, Sayuri Torii ●Beginner grades & repertoire: Hiroshi Goto ●Musical ensemble experiences boost motivation!
Hiroshi Hoshina ● Professional musicians' personal practice ideas Hiromasa Hayashi, Ryo Noda, Mana Koshino ● [Survey Project] What was your "first ensemble piece"?
● [Column] Witnessing a Superb Rehearsal - Toru Miura
■Special Feature 2
Now more than ever, practice is essential to improve your skills. However, many people are probably worried because they can't practice as much as they'd like due to limited club activity time, or because they can't secure a practice space or time.
That's when secret practice comes in handy. Why not make effective use of your free time at home for your instrument?
●Where and how do you practice?
Questionnaire by Naohiro Harada: A collection of secret practice ideas from professional musicians!
Hiroaki Kanda, Masanori Oishi, Soichiro Takezaki, Shinji Kitabatake, Asako Takayanagi, Kenji Kubota ● Helpful items and services for secret practice
■Special Feature
Let's re-examine your embouchure! Have you ever wondered what your embouchure looks like while playing brass instruments?
The reason you can't play as you'd like might be due to your embouchure.
Everyone's mouth shape is different, but with the right understanding, you should be able to find the optimal solution for yourself. Whether you're struggling to improve or just want to get better, why not take some time to think about your embouchure?
● Learn about the mechanism of a "good embouchure" by Kozo Moriyama ● Ask the pros! Key points of embouchure by Naoki Inoue, So Hamachi, Katsumi Hagiya, Koichiro Yamamoto, Ayano Iwakuro, and Taishi Furumoto ● Learn about the relationship between embouchure and teeth!
Kazuaki Kikumoto ● "What's your favorite mouthpiece?"
