FAQ

Description

The Precision Bass was Fender's first solid-body electric bass, released in 1951. Its high level of perfection rivals that of the Jazz Bass, which came later, and even now, more than 70 years later, it continues to reign supreme in the music scene as the standard for bass instruments.

The unit we have in stock today was shipped in late 1974. Looking at the price list from that time, this is a guitar from the era when black was still considered a custom color. While not as rare as it was in the 1960s, it is clearly less common than natural or sunburst finishes, making it a subtle connoisseur's favorite among vintage P-basses. Another major point is the unique appeal of black, which combines stage presence with a bold look.

【body】
The overall weight is approximately 3.85 kg, and the body is made of alder. The black finish, with a clear undercoat typical of this period, is accompanied by the weather-checking and natural paint peeling characteristic of the "Fender Thick-Skin High-Gloss" finish, giving it the deep character of a vintage instrument aged over many years. While there are signs of real use, such as paint peeling around the elbow contour, dents, sticker marks, belt buckle marks, and tarnished metal parts, there is no excessive damage, and the guitar is in relatively good condition considering its age. The finger rest has been replaced.

【neck】
The neck is made of one-piece maple. Like the body, it shows signs of aging, with weather checking and dents around the headstock, and crisp paint chipping, mainly on the sides of the neck. The tuners vary slightly in winding, but they work well. The frets and nut have been replaced once, and there is currently no significant wear, ensuring good playability. The fingerboard and back of the neck were repainted during refretting. With a headstock thickness of 14.7mm and a nut width of 41.3mm, equivalent to a B neck, it offers a relatively clean feel for a guitar of this age.

[Electrical system]
The controls are classic P-bass style (master volume/master tone). The electronics, including the pickups, are in perfect condition from the time of the original. The bass features a thick, resilient low-mid range typical of this era, while also offering excellent attack and projection. It outputs a stable tone whether played with fingers or a pick, without getting lost in a band ensemble. This highly practical 1970s Precision Bass is perfect for both studio and live performances.
