----------------------------------------
The M#265 uses an 18mm pitch specification.
The M (Magnitude) bass guitar enjoys immense popularity among bassists, both professional and amateur, especially those who specialize in slap bass techniques. Not only is it Atelier Z's flagship model, it's also arguably one of the most representative Japanese-made active basses, boasting a level of recognition that has endured for many years. Based on the style of 70's JB basses, it incorporates Atelier Z's unique ideas throughout its construction, and its high level of craftsmanship, with attention to detail from a bassist's perspective, is the secret to its popularity. This particular model, the M#265, is a 5-string model based on the M#245, featuring a 34-inch scale length and an 18mm string spacing.
This guitar features a substantial ash body. The body design reflects feedback from musicians, and despite its asymmetrical JB shape, the smoother shape on the control side minimizes slippage and tipping when placed on a stand. This model uses a one-piece maple neck that provides an open sound, and is fitted with celluloid-wrapped neck and block position markers. The original bridge, which provides ample sustain and a rich attack, is modeled after the legendary Badass bridge. Furthermore, the use of a 3mm thick clear pickguard narrows the distance between the strings and the pickguard, and combined with the half-cut pickup fence, provides stability for slap bass techniques, thumbing and pulling. The Tuning Z System, with its moderate tension and low string height setting, also provides smooth playability. These player-friendly specifications and meticulous adjustments are likely the secrets to its long-standing popularity.
Even with a low action setting, it delivers a solid, punchy sound that doesn't lose its body, producing a strong bass presence that stands out in various ensembles and genres. The preamp is the familiar Bartolini/XTCT, which fully utilizes the rich resonance of the bass itself while enabling even more aggressive sound shaping. When used actively, it can produce a wide range of sounds, from thick, rocking bass to scooped slap sounds with a boosted EQ. Furthermore, the instrument itself has a rich sound with ample mass, so even when used passively, it produces harmonically rich and elastic bass tones, making it suitable for various playing styles and musical genres.
Furthermore, this model has been redesigned from the previous [2 Volume] configuration to a more smoothly controllable [Master Volume, Balancer] configuration, resulting in controls of "Master Volume/Master Tone (Stack), Balancer, Treble, Bass (Pull/Passive)". In addition, a battery storage cavity has been added to the back of the body, making it even more user-friendly. The distinctive and unique sound that is instantly recognizable, as well as the peace of mind that comes from our workshop's meticulously controlled product quality, are among the reasons why so many bassists are captivated by this instrument. Take this opportunity to get your hands on this authentic model that will make its presence felt on stage and in the recording studio.
