BLACK SMOKER is a handmade brand from BLACK CLOUD, a workshop in Nagano Prefecture, a mecca for musical instrument manufacturing where many brands are located. This brand, which is already generating buzz among many professional musicians for its high sense of style and high quality in terms of sound, playability, and looks, is a noteworthy brand created by representative Mr. Kuroiwa, who has been involved in the design and manufacture of numerous manufacturers and models, and young builder Mr. Yanagisawa, who creates it together with him.

The "Trad Master" series is a new line of 5-string models that have already gained high praise and popularity. It features a simple yet standard, classic specification that allows you to fully appreciate the brand's true value, and is finished with a lacquer coating and aged look for a vintage feel.

This bass features classic 60s JB specifications, including an alder body, maple neck, and rosewood fingerboard. While the specifications are simple, the careful selection of materials is immediately apparent from the first note played. The neck shape is slim for ease of playability without sacrificing the core of the sound, and the original pickups, whose power has been adjusted specifically for this series, faithfully reproduce the body's resonance while producing a full sound. The smooth setup allows for stress-free playing, and above all, this bass conveys the "quality of craftsmanship" of the instrument itself. It has a rich tone without excessive peakiness, and depending on the setting and playing style, it can handle any genre or sound, making it a versatile instrument. The aged lacquer finish, which has been given excellent taste, the aged parts, which have been modified specifically for this series, and the vintage-style bridge all contribute greatly not only to the look but also to the thicker, more impactful sound.

Furthermore, in terms of appearance, the classic three-tone sunburst color with weather checking throughout boasts a vintage-like look, while the playability and sound pressure are clearly in line with the brand's pride—truly impressive. This is a fantastic bass that I wholeheartedly recommend, as it realizes the ideal of "what if a vintage low B5 string existed" at an extremely high level.

There is some paint peeling on the headstock, but since this model originally has an aged finish, you shouldn't have to worry too much about the scratches. The truss rod has plenty of adjustment range and the neck condition is good.
