FAQ

Description

The Catalinbread Formula 5F6 is an overdrive that brings the unique character of the vintage tweed Bassman to any clean amp.
The Tweed Bassman was originally designed as a bass amp, but it may be the most influential "guitar" amp of all time. With Treble, Middle, Bass, and Presence controls, and four 10-inch speakers, it was the perfect guitar amp design, and guitarists immediately recognized it. The Bassman's influence is best seen by comparing its circuitry with other famous British amps.
Setting the Tweed Bassman at low to medium volume produces a rich, sparkling, beautiful tone. Turning it up a bit reveals a character that guitarists will adore: an on-edge breakup character with a high response to pick attack. Open chords are filled with bell-like, rich harmonics. Turning the volume up to 12 delivers a thick, creamy, and raw crunch tone. This is truly the original sound that is the source of all heavy guitar sounds. Furthermore, hitting the strings hard brings a slight compression and a slight drag on the response. This is a truly satisfying, playable balance.
The Tweed Bassman is truly touch-sensitive and beautiful across the entire frequency range. Playing it with a Stratocaster is like being made in heaven. Playing it with a Gibson-style guitar makes it even more prone to distortion, and you'll instantly recognize the sound as you've heard it on some of the great records of the past.
The Formula 5F6 delivers response across the entire frequency range!
When you play hard, the compression kicks in instantly, delivering a wide-ranging clean sound with a sparkling, bell-like top and tight low end. But that's not all. After tweaking the Formula 5F6 circuitry to achieve the beautiful vintage Bassman response, we wondered, "What would happen if I turned up the gain on a Bassman, without even knowing about Marshall?" Tweaking the gain and tone circuitry resulted in a completely new sound: high gain with a bright attack. We then made this sound selectable via the internal Mode switch.
The Formula 5F6 can produce sounds suitable for a variety of styles of music, from the blues sounds of Buddy Guy and Otis Rush, who used a Strat with a Bassman, to the sounds of Jimmy, SRV, Robbie Robertson, Robben Ford, and many other guitarists, all of which can be achieved by combining the Formula 5F6 with an overdrive or fuzz pedal.
And the Formula 5F6 isn't just for old music: the pedal's beautiful response will inspire your imagination with entirely new sounds and entirely new compositions.
