Especially in professional settings, synchronized performances using in-ear monitors (IEMs) are commonplace, and the importance of the IEM environment is increasing, especially for drummers, keyboardists, and manipulators.
While extension cables are often necessary depending on the situation, musicians face the dilemma of having no choice but to use them.
Ideally, you probably wouldn't want to add any unnecessary elements to your monitor setup.
Amidst this situation, many musicians associated with Oyaide Electric have expressed concerns about the degradation of sound quality when using typical extension cables.
In response to this challenge, we developed the "IEX series" of extension cables for professional headphones and in-ear monitors.

The biggest selling point of the IEX series
To create an extension cable that doesn't alter the sound, we used materials with high transmission efficiency and implemented thorough sound quality tuning.
・A 6-core cable using audio-grade conductors has been developed specifically for the IEX series. Its structure is optimized for use as an extension cable for earphones and headphones.
The plugs come in two types: a 3.5mm stereo mini plug and a 6.3mm stereo phone plug.
- The 3.5mm stereo mini jack uses the "J-3.5 Special," which has been specially tuned for the IEX series.

Most extension cables on the market are designed for general audio use, and there were very few products that could satisfy the ears of professionals.
As a result, the problem arises where "the sound changes before and after using the extension cable."
This is a major disadvantage because it changes the balance of the monitor environment.
To address these issues, Oyaide Electric started development based on the concept of "extension cables that don't alter the sound."
By selecting materials with superior transmission efficiency and ultimately implementing meticulous design, we have created a high-quality extension cable that meets the needs of professional environments.

● Highly durable construction
The extra-thick PVC sheath and PES layer create a two-layer structure, resulting in high durability.
A highly cushioned polyester-based synthetic fiber is placed at the center of the conductor, and the intervening material is arranged coaxially with the conductor to stabilize the conductor structure inside the cable.
This design makes it resistant to external stresses such as being stepped on, and strong against repeated bending.
In addition, the tensile strength of the conductor is enhanced by twisting together aramid fibers.
It is designed for reliable use even in harsh work environments.

The most distinctive feature of the "IEX series dedicated cable" is its "6-core structure".
This not only allows for a larger conductor cross-sectional area, but also provides a significant advantage in hedging against the risk of wire breakage.
Even if one of the six cores breaks, the sound won't suddenly cut out; instead, you can detect the break as a sign of a change in sound quality.
With standard cables, even a single broken core will immediately cut off the sound, which could have a fatal impact on the progress of the event.
This two-pronged design, featuring an extra-thick, double-layered sheath and a 6-core structure that allows for the detection of early signs of wire breakage, provides a significant advantage in professional settings.
In the unlikely event that any signs of a broken wire are detected, we recommend having it repaired or replaced before it completely breaks.

● Highly flexible sheath material
Simply using highly flexible materials will only result in something that is soft, and will not provide practical handling capabilities.
If the material is too soft, like rubber, it will easily curl up, which can lead to reduced durability in long-term use.

The "IEX Series" focuses on this "practical handling performance," achieving optimal handling that does not hinder movement on stage.
By adopting a two-layer sheath structure of PVC and polyethylene, it achieves both whip-like springiness and shape retention.
We thoroughly pursued ease of use on stage without interfering with the performer's performance.

● Acoustic copper wire with improved conductivity
The conductor uses "Precision Conductor 102SSC," an audio-grade copper wire developed by Oyaide Electric.
Precision conductor 102SSC improves conductivity by mechanically peeling 4N oxygen-free copper (JIS C1011), which does not contain recycled copper, to micron levels, thereby removing 100% of impurities from the copper surface. (Conductivity 102.3% IACS)
To maximize the characteristics of the precision conductor 102SSC, the smoothed conductor surface is coated with urethane resin to improve the skin effect between strands.
It improves frequency characteristics while suppressing noise caused by inter-conductor distortion and electromagnetic field disturbances.

●Two types of plugs and dedicated jacks
■ Plug
• P-240T (IEX-63J): A non-magnetic phone plug made of brass with an electroless nickel finish.
It can be directly connected to mixers, audio interfaces, and other devices without the need for a 3.5mm to 6.3mm adapter plug.
• P-3.5G (IEX-35J): High-quality stereo mini plug with gold plating.
This 3.5mm stereo mini-plug is highly regarded both domestically and internationally, making it suitable for connecting to laptops, smartphones, IEM receivers, and more.
In all plugs, the TIP terminal is manufactured by machining it from a brass rod, and the structure does not involve any welding from the contact point to the soldering part.
Therefore, it is an ideal design that eliminates unnecessary contact points during metalworking.

■ Jack
• J-3.5 Special: A high-quality stereo mini-jack optimized for sound quality in the IEX series.
Unlike the common fork terminal structure used in relay connectors, it employs a uniquely designed "leaf spring structure."
The plug is securely gripped by multiple contact points, providing a click sensation during insertion and achieving a high retention force of over 20N.
This provides more than 1.5 times the retention force compared to a typical 3.5mm jack. Furthermore, the J-3.5 incorporates a spring to support the removal force, allowing for smooth and effortless removal of the plug while still providing a strong hold.
This design prevents accidental detachment on stage while ensuring smooth insertion and removal.

●A range of lengths to suit the job site
Two lengths are available: 1.8m and 3.0m.
We recommend 1.8m for drummers and keyboardists who have mixers or audio interfaces nearby, manipulators who prioritize maintaining sound quality, and for extending cable length in recording studios. For situations requiring movement on stage, we recommend 3.0m.
