Description
Description
Dingwall Bass features a fanned-fret system with angled frets that ensures balanced intonation across each string, making it a favorite of top bassists both in Japan and across musical genres. The Combustion series achieves high cost performance by sourcing wood in Canada and the United States, processing it at a factory in China, and assembling it in a Canadian workshop. This instrument is the signature model of John Taylor, known for his work with Duran Duran and who continues to demonstrate his talent in a variety of fields, including his solo career and acting. With his unique touches in every detail, this instrument offers a unique sound that is distinct from other Dingwall models.
The Nyatoh body features a five-piece maple neck and maple fingerboard, with Dingwall's original FD3 pickups mounted in a row toward the rear. Notably, while the standard model uses an EMG/BT circuit, this model features a Rupert Neve-designed two-band EQ. Brand representative Sheldon explains that the choice of this pickup stems from the fact that Duran's breakthrough single, the title track of their 1982 album "Rio," was recorded on a Neve console. The rich low end, with a hint of rustic charm, is complemented by the rich resonance of the fanned frets. Like the higher-end Z Series, this three-pickup setup allows for a wide range of sound creation, including front-only, front and rear, center and rear, and rear-only pickups.
Like the higher-end Afterburner and ABZ models, the FANNED-FRET SYSTEM features the longest Lo-B string at 37 inches, and the G string at 34 inches, the same length as a standard long-scale string. By optimizing the scale of each string, this system achieves a more consistent resonance in each position, and you can see the benefits in the creation of low-pitched sound particles and smooth pitch. Furthermore, the optimal tension for each string supports smoother operation with both hands, so once you get used to the fingering techniques, such as for slides, you'll find it hard to let go.
This model delivers a powerful tone, delivered by the body material and electronics, including the onboard preamp, with a tight, tight sound image and crisp attack. The high-quality sound, including the generous B string and clear intonation even at low tunings, has captivated bassists across a wide range of genres. The rich low end, in particular, is a must-listen, setting it apart from the standard Combustion and NG series.
