Description

Carefully selected consignment items (sales on behalf of customers)

Epiphone is now a familiar sister brand of Gibson, but before its acquisition by Gibson's parent company, CMI (Chicago Musical Instruments), in the late 1950s, it was a historic brand that was a dynamic rival to Gibson, particularly in the archtop field. After the CMI acquisition, Epiphone began producing solid-body models, resulting in the creation of many attractive models beloved by guitar fans around the world.

The SB721 Olympic Special debuted in 1962. It had almost the same specifications as the second version of Gibson's solid-body guitar, the Melody Maker, with its double cutaway. However, in 1964, the specifications were changed to create the original asymmetrical double cutaway shape while retaining the rounded ends. Equipped with a Melody Maker pickup, it is a user-friendly model beloved by many vintage guitar fans.

【body】
The overall weight is approximately 2.6 kg. The body is made of mahogany. Its distinctive sunburst color, which graduates from brown to yellow, is one of its charms. The pickguard, which tends to deteriorate over time, has been replaced with a new one. While there is some weather checking, dents and scratches, sticker marks on the body top, patina on the control knobs, and some tarnish on the parts, the finish maintains a good shine and the guitar is in relatively good condition. The transitional features, such as the chrome-plated TPBR-8513 bridge and nickel-plated bridge studs, will appeal to enthusiasts.

【neck】
The neck is made of mahogany. The fingerboard is made of rosewood. The headstock is unique to Olympic models. Although there is some weather checking and some scratches around the headstock, the brand logo is still clearly visible, and like the body, it is in excellent condition. The tuners have some inconsistency in winding, but they function well. The nut has been replaced and the frets have been filed, resulting in excellent playability. The nut width is 42.6mm. The neck shape is moderately firm.

[Electrical system]
The controls are simple, with a single pickup: master volume and master tone. The pickup is a single-coil pickup, commonly known as the Melody Maker pickup. The control parts, including the pickup, have been kept in their original condition. The guitar boasts a natural resonance and excellent response, as well as a clear, well-balanced tone with rich overtones.
