Description
Core top model
Since its founding in 1974, Taylor guitars have been made using carefully selected wood materials and parts, the latest technology, and the hands of skilled craftsmen. They have earned high praise and support from top musicians, and Taylor now boasts one of the largest market shares in the United States.
The T5 (Thinline Fiveway), Taylor's first electric guitar, may look like a semi-acoustic guitar at first glance, but it is a groundbreaking electric guitar with an unprecedented style that only an acoustic guitar manufacturer could offer, using the structure of an acoustic guitar.
Despite its thin body measuring just under 6cm, it has a rich, natural sound and, above all, outstanding playability!
The body top material of this Custom Series "T5-C2" is made from koa wood, which is also used for ukulele bodies and acoustic guitar sides and backs.
It features a bright, crisp sound and beautiful wood grain.
The T5's biggest feature is its pickup system, which not only uses Taylor's original "Expression System," a system familiar from the electric acoustic guitar series, but also features a stacked humbucking pickup!
The combination of the magnetic pickup embedded in the neck end and the dynamic body sensor attached to the back of the body top produces a sound so realistic that it's easy to mistakenly believe you're playing an electric acoustic guitar.
The humbucking pickups deliver a punchy, powerful midrange sound, delivering an electric sound that can even handle high-gain lead tones.
These pickups can be switched using the 5-way selector mounted on the side of the body, which is where the model name comes from!
The selector is at position 1 from the headstock side, allowing you to switch between the three pickup combinations installed.
It's also a good idea to use an electric-acoustic amp or an electric amp depending on the pickup position.
We also recommend switching between amplifiers using an AB-BOX or similar device!
In addition, the controls attached to the top of the body are just three: volume, treble, and bass boost/cut/tone controls, making them very simple and easy to understand and use!
The tone control's exquisite effectiveness allows for a variety of sound creations depending on the pickup combination used.
The T5 is a new generation electric guitar that truly combines electric and acoustic elements.
The infinite possibilities depend on how you use it. The unprecedented sensations will inspire you and lead to the creation of new music!
[5-Way Pickup Selector]
■ Position-1 (Front PU + Body Sensor)
This is an acoustic tone that activates the body sensor.
This body sensor picks up the delicate and dynamic airiness of the body, so it really shines when connected to an amp specifically designed for acoustic guitars. Connecting it to a regular guitar amp doesn't fully capture the airiness, making it difficult to hear the difference from Position 2, which uses only the front pickup. This sound fully brings out the delicate touch of varying picking strength.
■ Position-2 (Front PU)
A natural electric tone.
It has a moderate airiness and a wide range, making it a versatile tone. It usually has a boxy sound like a semi-acoustic guitar, but by adjusting the tone control, you can also get a sweet tone like a full-acoustic guitar. It sounds great with the clean tones of a guitar amp.
■ Position-3 (Rear PU)
This is the most electric tone.
The powerful, punchy midrange sound allows you to enjoy an electric sound that can even handle high-gain lead tones. The midrange is well-defined, allowing for good drive and producing a sound you wouldn't expect from such a amp. Also, with the amp set to clean and the T-5's treble control turned up, you can even get a Telecaster-like sound, adding versatility.
■ Position-4 (Front PU + Rear PU in parallel)
It has a crisp, supple tone.
It has a rustic tone reminiscent of the good old days, and is perfect for country licks or big band jazz sounds. It works well with the clean to slightly distorted sounds of electric amps, but it would also be interesting to connect it to an acoustic amp.
■ Position-5 (Front PU + Rear PU series)
Flat and fat humbucking-style tone.
The AMP settings provide a flexible tone that can handle a wide range of sounds, from clean to high gain, with a glossy, smooth feel. Fat clean tones are interesting, but the smooth sound extension with a slightly stronger crunch is also very pleasant.
There are signs of age-appropriate wear such as scratches and paint peeling. We have sent it to a repair workshop, so there is plenty of fret left and the neck is in good condition, so it is ready to play right away.
Currently, the lineup only includes the smaller T5z, so if you're looking for this T5 type, don't miss out!
