Ulrich Bass Design is a German bass manufacturer that combines traditional classical instrument-making techniques with modern design to create high-quality, handmade instruments, reflecting the philosophy of luthier Florian Hertzsch, who also makes violins, regarding sound, look, and feel.
This Retro 57 series model is designed based on the American culture of the good old 1950s, and features a 34-inch scale maple neck and 20-fret fingerboard, J-style pickup and passive circuit, a stylish tweed-covered control plate, and a head shape that appears to be influenced by the slotted head of a classical guitar, creating a distinctive look.
The sound is bright and open, typical of a lightweight instrument, with quick response and an excellent balance that takes into account the strain on the body when holding the instrument.
As it was made in 2023, it is in excellent condition with almost no scratches or signs of use, and there are no problems with functionality such as clogging of the truss rod or frets.
The instrument is packed with features that allow artists to concentrate on their music, such as a shellac-finished neck that feels soft and comfortable in the hand, an exquisite strap position, and a weight of approximately 3.45 kg that is gentle on the body.
