Featuring a 100% birch shell with one-piece lugs and a beautiful, glossy paint finish, this model can be considered the origin of Yamaha system drums.
At the time, maple was the most popular drum shell material and became a staple in American jazz drum sets.
Meanwhile, through his research into pianos and wind instruments, he discovered that birch was an ideal material for drum shells.
Piano manufacturing techniques were also applied to the drums, and instead of the veneer covering that was common at the time, a painted finish was used.
All of our technical expertise has been poured into this historic model.
By combining the hard shell material unique to birch with one-piece lugs, this model achieves a sharper, more solid sound, and has attracted the envy of top drummers around the world.
Its sound was said to be ideal for recording, and the YD9000 became the drum set most used for recording in history. The name YD9000 was later changed to "Recording Custom," a name that is still widely used today.

We have received an SD-970G model snare drum manufactured in the 1980s.
This is Yamaha's top-of-the-line, Made-in-Japan drum that has been loved by many people even now, more than 40 years after its release.
The shell is made from 100% high-quality birch wood from Hokkaido and is equipped with high-tension lugs, producing a solid, sharp, well-balanced sound with a good attack and effective mid-low range.
The inside of the shell of this SD-970G has a real wood finish, giving it a solid yet natural tone.
The snappy is a long type (full contact) that will not clip even on weak rolls.
This model can be used for a wide range of music, from rock, pop, jazz, and fusion to brass bands.
