Description

In the 1920s, Electro String Instrument Corporation capitalized on the guitar culture of the time by producing steel guitars equipped with horseshoe pickups. The company later changed its name to Rickenbacker Inc., which continues to this day, and continues to produce instruments beloved by artists around the world.

This is the Combo 400, produced around 1957. Its distinctive tulip body shape made it an entry-level model at the time. It debuted in 1956, but production ceased before 1958, and was succeeded by the Model 400 series, which featured a neck-through construction.

【body】
The total weight is approximately 2.7 kg. The body color is Jet Black, but gold flakes appear to have been oversprayed onto the sparkle finish. While the neck-through material is usually left unpainted, this guitar features Jet Black paint on the neck-through material, creating a very cool finish. There are some minor graffiti engravings and dents on the pickguard and bridge cover, but the guitar is in good condition.

【neck】
The neck is made of maple and features a neck-through construction. The fingerboard is also excellent. The headstock is oversprayed with the same sparkle black finish as the body. The tuners remain the same "Grover V97" open-backs, and while there is some variation in winding stiffness, there are no functional issues. The frets and nut have been replaced. Settings are within the spec range, and there are no issues with extreme choking or other issues. The nut width is 43.0mm. The neck features a sturdy, thick shape that evokes the guitar's age.

[Electrical system]
The controls are volume/tone and a tone shift switch. The neck-mounted pickup is a Rowe Industries "DiArmond" Combo model single-coil pickup, a favorite among bizarre guitar fans. While this is an entry-level model, it's backed by high-quality materials, producing a warm tone with a strong overtone presence for a comfortable sound.
