Slipknot Jim Root Signature Pickup
Slipknot guitarist Jim Root, a longtime fan of the EMG 81 & 60 combination, began developing his signature pickup three years ago.
After trying various prototypes, Jim was inspired by Retro Active pickups modified to suit his tone, resulting in the DAEMONUM SET, which combines his favorite 81 & 60 tones with the versatility of Retro Actives.
Unlike traditional open-coil pickups, the DAEMONUM SET features stud pole pieces for both the bridge and neck pickups. The neck pickup uses a ceramic pole piece/ceramic magnet combination, which shifts the resonance peak slightly higher compared to the Retro Active, resulting in a clean high-end and percussive tone. The bridge pickup uses a steel pole piece/ceramic magnet combination, which produces a sound similar to the 81 but with a slightly lower resonance peak.
Both pickups are equipped with Retro Active preamps custom-built for the DAEMONUM SET.
