Description
Description
JHS's Pulp 'N' Peel has a reputation as a pedal used not only by players looking for a natural compressor, but also by players who don't like compressors, and is found at the feet of players all over the world.
The Pulp 'N' Peel V4 maintains the beloved Pulp 'N' Peel sound while taking a step into new territory, incorporating new tones and a new approach to compressor pedals.
It features a smoother, longer-sustaining tone, more headroom, a parallel overdrive-drive circuit, tone controls, and a standard phone jack output, as well as a parallel DI output with ground lift.
The Pulp 'N' Peel V4 features Volume, Compression, Blend, EQ, and a Dirt switch. The Volume control is a standard master volume, and can also boost the output signal. With a higher headroom than previous Pulp 'N' Peel pedals, it can also be used as a clean boost pedal to boost a tube amp.
The Compression control adjusts compression/sustain, clockwise for more compression and longer sustain.
The Blend control acts like a fader on a mixing console, adding clean to the compressed signal to control attack, clarity, and resolution. Turning it clockwise increases the compressor signal, allowing you to create a sound that brings out the natural tone of your guitar/bass and amp. It is especially effective when used with bass.
The EQ control allows you to brighten or darken the sound of the effected signal. Counterclockwise makes the tone darker, clockwise makes it brighter. In combination with the Blend control, you can also fine-tune the tone.
And the Dirt toggle switch adds distortion to your signal, from a light crunch to overdrive, which can be adjusted with the trim pot on the side.
This function has a magical effect when used with guitars as well as basses. For bassists who sometimes complete their systems with just distortion and compression, it is important to be able to control them all together with one unit. This is where the Blend control comes in handy.
Additionally, the Pulp 'N' Peel V4 features an internal buffer slide switch on the side. This switch allows you to switch between true bypass and buffered bypass. The JHS Pedal's natural buffering is useful when running long cables, connecting many downstream effects, or when the bypass sound of downstream effects can sometimes become muddy.
The input and output jacks are standard. Next to the output jack is an XLR/DI output, allowing you to connect the Pulp 'N' Peel V4 directly to a mixer. This active DI is also ideal for bass and acoustic players. A ground lift switch eliminates hum caused by ground loops.
The natural and transparent Pulp 'N' Peel V4 doesn't change the characteristics of single coils or humbuckers. Unlike older compressors, which tend to crush the high end of the sound and reduce clarity in the high frequencies, the Pulp 'N' Peel V4 naturally captures the color and attack of your guitar or bass. With incredibly low noise and impressive headroom, it can also be used as a booster, placed before or after an overdrive, distortion, or fuzz pedal.
The Pulp 'N' Peel V4 is powered by a standard DC9V adapter. It cannot be used with batteries. It draws less than 100mA.
*The trim pot inside the pedal is delicately adjusted, so do not change it.
