~~~~~The following is the product description for a new item. ~~~~~
Gibson Custom Shop was established in 1993 to create the finest electric guitars and basses using high-quality manufacturing techniques, an insatiable spirit of inquiry, and carefully selected materials, cultivated over many years. The Custom Shop lineup, still built using traditional handcrafting methods and a thorough knowledge of vintage instruments, is unrivaled in its exquisite craftsmanship, and is sure to become the ultimate beloved instrument that will endlessly inspire the player's innermost inspiration.
Although production of the Les Paul Custom ceased around 1960, it regained popularity in the late 1960s when it was seen in the hands of top musicians. Production finally resumed in 1968, along with the Standard. While retaining the design from 1960, the body construction was revised, adopting a plain maple top and mahogany back, and changing from the three humbuckers prevalent in the 1950s to a two-humbucker configuration. The result was simple operability and a sound character with a very distinct, edgy character even when distorted, which is now known as the signature tone of the Les Paul Custom.
The fingerboard features shiny block inlays made of ebony, and the one-piece mahogany neck features a slim, grippy C-shape that traces the original shape.
The tuning pegs that catch your eye when tuning are Kluson wafflebacks. This type is named after the distinctive grooves on the gear housing cover. They are also known for their playfulness, including the ABR-1, which has a wired bridge.
The pickups are "68 Custom Humbuckers," developed by former Historic Product Manager Edwin Wilson during his time at the company. They accurately capture the nuances of your picking, and their solid feel with tight, firm bass delivers a feel that evokes the spirit of the rock movement of the time.
