Description
Description
Dingwall has impressed first-call bassist Lee Sklar, who has participated in recordings and live performances with many famous artists, and has earned high praise from connoisseurs around the world for its distinctive FANNED-FRET SYSTEM, body balance, pickup placement, and more.
Currently, the delivery time for custom shop models is 3 to 4 years, and they take a very long time to make, but at Dingwall we prioritize quality → cost → time, and we take our time to carefully make each instrument so that we can produce a quality that all players will be satisfied with.
This model is a 5-string version of the 3-pickup model Z3 from the "Z" series, which is considered the flagship of the Custom Shop models.
The stunningly beautiful grained burl maple is complemented by an optional alder body, unlike the standard ash body of the Z Series. It also features an optional wenge neck and optional Luminlay speed bar inlays on the wenge fingerboard.
The rich mid-range elements of alder combined with the sharpness and responsiveness of wenge create a well-balanced sound, making this a guitar that can be used across a wide range of genres.
When the brand's founder and president, Sheldon Dingwall, visited Japan, we showed him the specifications of this device and he gave it his stamp of approval, saying, "That's a great combination."
The classic combination of FDV pickups and a Glockenklang preamp gives it a punchy low range that's perfect for loud or djent sounds when boosted, but when flat or passive it's also well-suited for pop and mellow playing, producing a sound that will impress many bass players.
The three distinctive pickups are controlled by a four-position rotary switch: front, front + rear (parallel), middle + rear (series), and rear. This allows for simulation of J-style or MM-style pickup positions, and can be combined with preamps for an infinite range of sound possibilities.
The scale starts at 37 inches for the 5th string and is 34 inches for the 1st string, the same as a standard long scale. This FANNED-FRET SYSTEM ensures that each string produces well-balanced tension and a solid tone. The low B string, in particular, has a tight range of amplitude, resulting in a beautiful, well-defined tone, making it a uniquely appealing model.
In recent years, an increasing number of brands have added the FANNED-FRET SYSTEM to their lineups under names such as "multi-scale," and many have commented that the design, which follows the natural movement of the body, is "easier to play than expected." In the case of the Dingwall, this is likely due to the body design, balance, and recessed locking pin on the back, which don't even hint at the super-long 37-inch scale.
Once you play it, you will definitely appreciate its greatness.
If you have never tried Dingwall before, we highly recommend you give it a try.
