The Black Panther Design Lab series is a high-end snare drum model that is one step above the Black Panther series.
We have established a clear sound concept by identifying the desired performance characteristics based on the advanced live and studio needs of top players.
Different tonewoods, bearing edge profiles, counter hoop styles, lug casings, snare wires, drum heads and shell finishes are meticulously engineered and blended.
Mapex calls this a "concept hybrid" and reverse-engineers the performance characteristics to achieve the desired result.
＜CHERRY BOMB＞
Concept Hybrid: VINTAGE / CONTROLLED / PRECISE
This model is a reconstruction and further refinement of the existing Black Panther model, and the shell is made from a medium-thick cherrywood shell.
It efficiently extracts the soft, dense overtones of cherry wood, producing a warm yet focused tone with a punchy backbeat.
It has the sound and feel of vintage, but with the accuracy, reliability, and functionality required for modern music.
In addition to MAPEX's signature SONIClear Bearing Edge specifications, it also features a Sonic Saver Hoop, unique Air Flow Venting, and a Cylinder-Drive Strainer.
-Cherry Shell-
The soft cherry shell produces a pre-EQ sound with a powerful low end and emphasized attack, providing a vintage tone suitable for classic rock styles, pop, and more.
-SAS (SONICLEAR ATTENUATION SYSTEM) FINISH-
The Natural Satin SAS finish not only brings out the beautiful character of the wood used in the drum, but also allows the shell's extremely small mass to fully vibrate.
-SONIClear(TM) Bearing Edge-
Sonic Clear™ Bearing Edges are standard on all Black Panther Design Lab shells.
The drumhead rests flat on the shell edge, increasing contact between the head and shell and enhancing shell vibration, maximizing the resonance of the shell body from the drum.
The result is a stronger, deeper base pitch, with significantly increased tuning stability and range.
-Sonic Saver Hoops-
Sonic Saver hoops bridge the gap between flanged and die-cast hoops.
The unique shaping process creates a profile that reduces stick wear and dramatically improves rim shot response and feel.
Significantly lighter than traditional die-cast hoops, they do not impede the shell's vibration, resulting in a more natural percussive sound and significantly improved resonance.
-Puresound(R) Custom Series 16-Strand Wires-
Puresound(R) Custom Series 16-Strand wire features evenly spaced standard coils in medium-gauge wire, providing an even balance of snare response and shell sound.
-Cylinder-Drive Strainer and Butt-End Adjuster-
The cylinder drive strainer and butt end adjuster use self-lubricating bearings to ensure smooth operation, and the adjustment dial features "Micro Lock" technology.
This allows for precise control and prevents the snare wire from loosening while you play.
-Air Flow Venting-
One of the most important aspects of playing the drums is feel.
The Airflow Vent is key to this feel and the overall resonance of each shell.
