Description
The original Argo design is a tweak of the iconic "COB" circuit, allowing players to freely balance octave fuzz sounds with boosted clean signals. With the Fuzz and Blend controls set to minimum, the Argo circuit acts as a very useful and musical-sounding booster.
When Mick Taylor from That Pedal Show suggested we make this a switchable feature, we were excited to get even more out of a circuit that so many players know and love.
The Argo Boost Deluxe has essentially the same topology as the Argo, but with an additional footswitch and Red Boost knob, you can use the boost portion of the circuit on its own. Think of it as changing lanes within a pedal, rather than pairing a new booster within this new pedal.
This gives you two gain stages perfect for use before a drive pedal or drive amp, the boost increases the overall push, and the fuzz footswitch unlocks the full Argo Octave Fuzz sound.
■Just a little Sparkle
The Argo Boost Deluxe features a HIGHS switch that opens up a whole host of tonal possibilities. In the initial plans for this pedal, Mick wanted the boost section to be a little brighter overall. Rather than making this a permanent sound change, he decided to give the player a choice.
The pedal ships with the HIGHS switch off. Turning this little switch on adds a nice amount of high frequency sparkle to your signal when using Boost mode. This bright circuitry is not part of the Octave Fuzz sound.
