Tak Matsumoto

He started playing guitar upon entering high school and performed in music contests, live music venues, and school festivals while still a student. Later, encouraged by his guitar school instructor to perform in real-world settings, a demo tape he had created around the same time caught the eye of a music producer, leading to the start of his professional career as a session guitarist. While participating in studio work for numerous musicians, he gradually expanded his activities beyond the studio. After serving as a support guitarist in several concerts, he released his first solo album in May 1988. While gaining recognition as a guitarist, he formed a band he had long envisioned, and debuted with B'z on September 21 of the same year. In
June 1999, he was selected by Gibson, the world's No. 1 guitar manufacturer, as the fifth person in the world and the first Japanese person to be chosen as a Les Paul "Signature Artist." In
November 2004, Matsumoto himself launched "House Of Strings," a label for string instrument players, primarily guitarists, and released his first album, "House Of Strings." This album, a newly studio-recorded collaboration with the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra at the prestigious Suntory Hall, is generating buzz as a work that allows listeners to experience the delicate yet majestic sonic world created by the strings of the guitar and orchestra.
In
June 2010, he released "TAKE YOUR PICK," a collaborative album with jazz fusion master Larry Carlton. The collaboration between these two top guitarists, representing Japan and the US and unparalleled as composers, received worldwide acclaim and was awarded "Best Pop Instrumental Album" at the 53rd Grammy Awards in 2011.
His
exceptional guitar playing and unique tone, which produces flowing melodies, evoke universal imagery, and he continues to captivate audiences by actively releasing solo works, providing songs to other artists, and participating in guitar performances, alongside his creative and live activities with B'z.
