Description

Founded in 1967, Firstman, a play on the name of Kazuo Morioka, produced a large number of guitars and basses over a very short period of time (about two years), and is a well-known brand that enjoys enduring popularity in the Japanese vintage market.

This time we have the popular "Baroque Special" in stock, which is the brand's representative model.

【body】
The overall weight is approximately 2.3 kg. This hollow-body model is sleeker than the Baroque Custom and closer to a violin shape. Over time, the binding and wood have become uneven, creating slight gaps. Other damage, such as scratches, dents, and discoloration of metal parts, is typical of this instrument's age.

【neck】
The headstock, with its distinctive scroll shape reminiscent of a violin, has also peeled over the years, revealing signs of past gluing. The tuner is missing a bushing for the first string, and while there is some inconsistency in the winding, it still functions properly. The frets and nut have worn down and are quite low. Consequently, the string height is set high, but we have corrected any loose frets and the instrument plays relatively well. The nut width is approximately 41.5mm, and the neck shape is "thin and thick" with a rounded edge.

[Electrical system]
The controls are one volume, one tone, an on-off switch for each pickup, and a tone bypass switch. The tone control is reverse-acting, which is common with older Japanese guitars. The original pickups produce a bouncy, bouncy sound as expected, but the tone bypass transforms it into a clean, solid sound, making it surprisingly versatile.
