A style born from the Masterworks Studio recipe, the maple and gumwood combination is considered one of the best drum sounds ever used on a recording, and the MMG delivers even more performance in the recording environment.
The combination of an equal-thickness 6-ply shell made of maple (4-ply outer) and gumwood (2-ply inner) produces a punchy tone and instantaneous attack, as well as impressive low-end response and dynamic range.

Masters Maple Gum is considered one of the greatest drum sounds ever put on record.
The 6-ply shell is made of equal thickness maple and gumwood, and combined with a shallow 60° outer bearing edge, the hybrid shell produces a powerful and exquisitely lustrous sound.
The shells are manufactured using superior shell technology that utilizes unique techniques to achieve the ultimate sound.
The wood is carefully selected for its superior acoustic properties, and then molded to a high density and precise thickness using scarf-cut joints.
The pores of each ply are filled with Pearl's proprietary glue and then molded (heat compression molding system) under high pressure and temperature of 1000 PSI to produce a strong drum shell that boasts excellent tone, best resonance, and high durability.
In addition, all shells are rigorously inspected for edge flatness and roundness before drilling and assembly to ensure the best head mounting and tuning stability.
During the lacquer finishing process, skilled craftsmen apply the paint carefully without impairing the natural sound of the shell.
The evenly-thick 6-ply (5.4mm) shell is formed from 4 plies of outer maple and 2 plies of inner gumwood, combining the warmth of maple with the toughness of gumwood for a resilient yet explosive attack.
