Description

Headway's new beginning: The Eagle

Headway is popular for its high level of craftsmanship and produces a wide range of models, from traditional to exotic and modern.
Aska Team Build is made up of a small but elite team of several people who have spent 10 years at Headway under master builder Momose. Aska Team Build incorporates rare woods not normally used in regular models, as well as processing and design techniques that require advanced skills, and builds guitars with specifications that are meticulous in terms of both sound and appearance.

This model is a "completely new Headway" model developed in 2023, embracing the desire of Headway, a company founded in 1977 with a history spanning over 45 years, to soar into a new era. While following the style of Headway's flagship model, the HD-115, the specs and specifications have all been revised, and the craftsmen of Aska Team Build collaborated with Headway founder Yasuo Momose from scratch to create this model, named The Eagle.

Based on the "Eagle" that has been the trademark of previous Headway models, the design has been brushed up and inspired by the eagle, the king of the sky, with the Headway logo on the head incorporating a new crown design. Reconstructed together with his beloved apprentices, whom he has dedicated his life to nurturing, "The Eagle" was developed with special meaning by Momose himself.

The body features a classic combination of Sitka spruce for the top and Indian rosewood for the back and sides. The bracing is based on the standard bracing used by Mr. Momose when Headway was founded, but custom builders Yasui and Furuhata have redesigned it with a modern twist, using "Mid Point Shifted X Bracing." It also features "Shallow Scalloped" bracing, a feature previously only found on Mr. Momose's Custom Shop models, but now for the first time on The Eagle. Each note has a distinct tone, yet a deep, boxy resonance, all wrapped up in overtones for a well-balanced sound. The powerful dreadnought sound, the expansive sound of Indian rosewood, and the overtones of Sitka spruce combine to produce a delicate yet powerful and expansive sound that maintains the Headway sound while also showcasing new possibilities for the brand.

The neck is constructed of African mahogany with an ebony fingerboard and features the latest neck grip design, the "ESV-CUSTOM." The "ESV-Custom" neck profile, a reshape of the "ESV" used on previous models, offers a more comfortable grip. As the neck tapers toward the higher frets, it's approximately 0.5mm thinner at the 12th fret than the "ESV." This provides a comfortable grip even on the higher frets, enhancing playability. While simply making the neck thinner can be a concern, the neck incorporates two carbon support bars, which maintain its rigidity and also contribute to quicker response, transmitting vibrations the instant you play.

In terms of design, the brand logo is inspired by the eagle, the king of the sky, and features the "Headway Crown Logo," which symbolizes a crown. The inlay also recreates the "eagle," a symbolic motif that Headway has used since its founding. The fingerboard inlay features eagle feathers fluttering down, achieving both visibility and aesthetic appeal.

This model comes with a sound hole cover, featuring the Aska Team Build Series The Eagle's theme color, "red," for a rich, luxurious feel. The sound hole cover also serves practical purposes, such as moisturizing the body and reducing feedback.

The Eagle is a newly designed and engineered model that brings together Headway's many years of know-how and technical expertise.
