Ottaviano Cristofoli
Born in Udine, Italy in 1986, he entered the J. Tomadini di Udine Conservatory at the age of 10 and graduated in 2004 at the age of 17. During his time there, he attended master classes with Pierre Tibeaud, Max Sommerhalder, Fred Mills, and Gabriele Cassone. Immediately after his diploma exam at the Conservatory, he passed the audition for the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole, Italy's only orchestra academy, and was a member of the Orchestra Giovanile Italiana (Italian Youth Orchestra) from 2004 to 2006.
He then spent two years in Chicago, USA, studying under Dale Clevenger, Tage Larsen, Christopher Martin, Mark Ridenour, and Rex Martin, all members of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and during that time he performed as principal trumpet with major Italian orchestras, including the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, the Orchestra Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, the Teatro Carlo Felice of Genoa, the Orchestra del Fenice of Venice, the Orchestra Regionale Toscana (ORT), the Teatro San Carlo of Naples, the Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano Giuseppe Verdi, the Orchestra Sinfonica Friuli-Venezia Giulia, the Teatro Giuseppe Verdi of Trieste, the Teatro Reggio of Turin, and the Haydn Orchestra of Bolzano. From 2007, for one year he was a member of the German Schleswigholstein Festival Orchestra, whose artistic director is C. Eschenbach, and performed in Germany, Hungary, Brazil, Russia, Armenia and Lithuania.
During this time, he became an associate member of the Chicago Civic Orchestra, a finalist with the Miami New World Symphony Orchestra, and passed the audition for an extra player and substitute principal with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
Since September 2008, he has served as first trumpet player of the Hyogo Performing Arts Center Orchestra, led by Artistic Director Yutaka Sado, and in 2009 he joined the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, where he currently serves as guest principal trumpet player.
In 2011, he gave a master class at the Conservatorio A.Buzzola diAdria in Adria, Italy, and was also invited to teach the summer course (Corsi di perfezionamento of lstitute GAFano) in Spilimbergo, where he continues to mentor the next generation of musicians.
He has also been invited as a soloist to perform with numerous orchestras in Japan, Italy, China, and Korea.
