Description

[Vintage] SD-970A [YD-9000 Series / Real Wood Finish 14×7] [Made In Japan]

[Yamaha's proud Japanese-made snare drum masterpiece! The earliest YD9000 series snare drum, manufactured in the late 1970s, is now in stock!]

~YD9000~
Featuring a 100% birch shell with one-piece lugs and a beautiful, glossy paint finish, this model can be considered the origin of Yamaha system drums.
At the time, the most popular drum shell material was maple, which became popular as a standard for American jazz drums.
Meanwhile, through his research into pianos and wind instruments, he discovered that birch was an ideal material for drum shells.
Piano manufacturing techniques were also applied to the drums, and instead of the veneer covering that was common at the time, a painted finish was used.
All of our technical expertise has been poured into this historic model.
By combining the hard shell material unique to birch with one-piece lugs, this model achieves a sharper, more solid sound, and has attracted the envy of top drummers around the world.
Its sound was said to be ideal for recording, and the YD9000 became the drum set most used for recording in history. The name YD9000 was later changed to "Recording Custom," a name that is still widely used today.

[SD970A]
It was Yamaha's flagship model at the time, and remains popular even today, more than 40 years after its release.
This SD970A is an early model that was released in 1977 and is available in the most popular real wood color.
The shell is made from 100% high-quality, premium Hokkaido birch and is equipped with high-tension lugs, resulting in excellent sound projection.
It boasts the stable sound that only a high-tension lug can provide, a solid, sharp attack with good rise, and a well-balanced sound with effective mid-low range, and is well-known as a snare drum that picks up well on microphones.
This snare drum is suitable for everything from rock to jazz, and comes in a deep 7-inch wood shell.
The long string has a snare that runs along the entire surface, so the sound does not clip even with a light touch or roll, and resonates crisply.
The double-tightening system allows for fine adjustment of the snap tension. The ten bolts allow for precise tuning.
