The Halcyon Gold Overdrive is a classic overdrive pedal based on the Klon Centaur and featuring ORIGIN EFFECTS' unique adaptive circuit.
This simple yet unique design results in a dynamic, interactive overdrive that adapts its voicing in response to changes in pick attack and guitar volume.
ORIGIN EFFECTS has taken great pains to accurately recreate the legendary mid-forward voicing sound and characteristics of vintage diodes that are no longer available, but has also incorporated several innovative features that go beyond the capabilities of the original.
One of the Halcyon Gold Overdrive's secrets is the ADAPT switch. When you activate this function, the mid-range voicing gradually fades out as you turn down the guitar's volume and transition to a clean sound. This means you get that classic Klon tone, while still being able to clearly express the guitar's inherent clean tone characteristics with the control of your guitar's volume knob.
The DRY control allows you to adjust the level of the dry signal that forms part of this classic drive tone.
You can use it to boost a low gain amp sound by increasing the dry signal level to add body and definition to the sound, or to reduce the dry signal level with a clean amp to make the most of your high gain tones.
This DRY pass has been improved to change the overload characteristics, allowing access to a wider variety of drive flavors when used in conjunction with other drive pedals.
The VOICE switch allows you to choose between the classic Klon(R) mid-forward voicing sound and a smoother, more balanced MOD sound.
The KLN setting is the standard voicing, while the MOD setting provides a wider mid-hump and a softer, more compressed clipping characteristic. The MOD setting is particularly well-suited for single-coil pickups and combining clean amp sounds with high-gain tones.
