Description

Kangaroo Hide Drum Heads are now available!

Kentville Drums, run by Steele Turkington, is a drum repair and kangaroo hide drumhead manufacturer based in Sydney, Australia.
Clients include Charlie Watts of The Rolling Stones, Mick Fleetwood of Fleetwood Mac, Todd Sucherman of Styx, The Sydney Symphony Orchestra, and The London Symphony Orchestra, and the company has gained attention and trust from around the world.
At Kentville Drums, everything is handmade using traditional methods, including cutting the leather, drying it, and attaching it to the hoops.
The kangaroo leather we use comes from an ethically managed kangaroo population control program run by the NSW Office of Environment and Heritage, and the leather used for the drumheads is carefully selected for its quality.
Kangaroo leather is flexible, lightweight, and durable, making it suitable for use in high-end sports shoes.
These characteristics are also utilized in drum heads, which are more durable than other animal skins and produce a warmer tone.

- When opening the sealed package, please be careful not to damage the drum head.
- Tune the strings so that the tension is even.
- When replacing a new plastic drum head, you often put your weight on it to remove the glue, but do not do this with this product.
Kangaroo hide, like other animal skins, expands and contracts depending on the weather. In humid conditions, it loses tension (expands), and in dry conditions, it increases tension (shrinks).
For drums that require relatively tight tension, such as snares and high-pitched toms, we recommend lowering the tension after playing. This allows the heads room to shrink during storage and prevents excessive tension buildup. Please be especially careful after playing in humid conditions.
- If you apply a little extra tension to bass drums and low-pitched toms before storing them, you can adjust them to a lower pitch when tuning them.
- Always store the heads after removing them from the package, keeping them attached to the drum and maintaining a certain tension. If you store them loosely, store them on a shelf where humidity levels are minimal and check them regularly.
