Description

Introducing the latest model in the SQ1 series, a sonar that is attracting attention worldwide!

Nine years after the release of the SQ2, Sonor's completely custom drum series, a development project was launched to further evolve the series. From the wide range of options offered in the SQ2, the SQ1 series was born, focusing on birch shells and consulting with leading drummers such as Chris Coleman.

With a "balanced sound" in mind, we exchanged opinions with sound designers, craftsmen, and even top drummers involved in the development, and conducted blind tests of numerous shell specifications. We discovered that 100% pure birch shells produced a "balanced sound" that stood out more than any other shell specifications.
The shells are made from premium European birch, the same material used in the SQ2 series, with a 45° bearing edge and 10-ply 10mm construction for the bass drum and 7-ply 7mm construction for the snare drum, tom-toms and floor tom.

Of course, it also features Sonor's standard "CLTF: Cross Laminated Tension Free" construction, which alternates between vertical and horizontal grain in the material, with the interior of the shell set to vertical grain, achieving both shell strength and good sound transmission, and "OSM: Optimum Shell Measurement," which maximizes not only the sound of the shell but also the sound and vibration of the drumhead by setting the diameter slightly smaller than the actual size, making it a drum series that represents the culmination of Sonor's current work.

The finish is both nostalgic and modern, with a matte finish that is hand-painted one by one at the Sonar factory, inspired by the classic European racing cars that still survive in Havana, Cuba today.

This model features the strainer system, which debuted at the 2012 Winter NAMM Show. This revolutionary system allows you to attach the snare with a single touch by pressing and pulling the switches on the bottom left and right sides of the strainer, without disconnecting the snare cord. This system also allows you to replace the bottom head (snare side) without disconnecting the snare cord. It also features smooth on/off movement, and the tension adjustment bolts on the top of both the strainer and butt are designed to stay firmly in place.
