☆XY stereo microphone for digital SLR cameras with various noise countermeasures☆
The TM-2X is an XY stereo condenser microphone that, when used for video shooting with digital SLR cameras, which have been gaining attention in recent years, can be attached to the accessory shoe and connected with an audio cable to enable high-quality audio recording that matches the high-quality video. By fully utilizing our know-how in our well-received linear PCM recorders and professional audio equipment, we have created an accessory that allows SLR camera users to easily enjoy high-quality video shooting.
The microphone unit consists of two unidirectional condenser microphone units arranged in an XY configuration to focus on picking up sound from the front. The XY configuration is a type of stereo recording method that allows for sound capture without center dropout, making it highly effective for video recording of specific subjects. The microphone unit features a vari-angle mechanism that allows it to move up and down 180 degrees, allowing the microphone to be oriented to suit the subject. The audio circuit design, including the microphone, involves repeated listening tests and the selection of components with a focus on sound quality. With a sound pressure rating of 120dB SPL, it is possible to capture sound without distortion, even from loud subjects.
In addition to improving the sound quality of the circuit itself, we have also implemented measures to combat external noise. In particular, we have focused on the noise unique to digital SLR cameras and incorporated various countermeasures. A floating structure is used between the microphone body and the shoe mount to reduce noise transmitted from the camera body. In addition, a noise isolation arm is included, which physically reduces noise by placing the microphone at a distance from the noise source. If the drive noise of the autofocus is a concern, you can reduce the noise by attaching the noise isolation arm. In addition, a low-cut filter is installed to cut low-frequency noise, and a furry windscreen is included to reduce the noise caused by wind when outdoors.
While offering functionality approaching that of professional audio equipment, it's incredibly easy to use. Simply attach it to your camera and connect the stereo mini jack plug to the camera's external input and you're ready to go. Then, simply adjust the camera's recording level to match the subject, and you can enjoy video with higher audio quality than you'd get with just the camera. Furthermore, because it's an analog audio device without digital circuitry, it can be used with cameras other than digital SLRs, including mirrorless cameras, compact digital cameras, and video cameras that have an external audio input terminal.
Simply attaching the TM-2X to your camera will enable you to shoot high-quality video that takes advantage of the unique bokeh effect of digital SLR video and adds immersive sound.
