Description

Discrete Transistor Overdrive

A special overdrive that encompasses everything from Neil Young to 90s post-hardcore.

Halberd is an overdrive pedal designed by EAE.
The overdrive circuit is a discrete design using over 12 transistors to maximize achievable dynamic range and clarity.
Although it is a medium-gain device, it has a unique texture that combines the overtones, smooth texture, and grind of a high-gain pedal.

Its feel, which sets it apart from distortion using op-amps or JFET amplifier simulations, covers an even more special area in the EAE lineup.

Overview
- Extremely high dynamic range - Excellent sound clarity - Musical shaping of instrument-specific frequency bands To achieve these elements at a high level, Halberd uses a discrete overdrive circuit that combines multiple transistors.
It has a glassy and transparent feel, but it's not a pedal that preserves the sound as it is without coloring it.
While exuding a distinctly unique character, the way it responds linearly to the pickups used, string gauge, pick attack, and chord voicing makes it a signature tone that defines the next generation, further advancing the transparency that is prevalent on the market.

The distinctive harmonic rich sound can be greatly changed by the controls provided.
Each control influences the other, allowing you to freely manipulate the sound, from a blown-out tweed amp, to an overloaded console, to a rattling, jangly strum, to an overwhelming fuzz drive.
Even with its wide range of variations, EAE's unique emotional sound tuning, filled with passion, is still alive and well.

Of course, it can be used effectively not only with guitars, but also with any instrument, including bass and synthesizers.

■Controls
Pre: Overall input gain level. Turn clockwise to increase overall signal gain. Light compression at low gains. Clipping increases with pickup character and Depth settings for a medium gain drive tone.
Depth: Adjusts the low frequency shelving filter located in the input stage. Turning clockwise increases the bass components for a smooth, fuzz-like drive. Turning counterclockwise cuts the bass for a jangly sound. It interacts strongly with the Pre knob.
Tone: Adjusts the high shelf cut located in the output stage. Turning clockwise opens up the high frequencies, while turning counterclockwise makes them darker. Below 9 o'clock, a noticeable bass boost occurs, interacting with the Post setting.
Post: Overall output level. Can be set to a very rounded setting. This control is buffered to maintain maximum resolution at any setting.
・Voice: Changes the voicing of the overdrive signal.
Top: Clang - Clang-Clang. Adds a significant high-mid boost for an aggressive sound.
Middle: Standard.
Bottom: Deep. Adds a full-range gain boost for a heavily saturated tone.

■Specifications
Bypass: Class A JFET buffered bypass, silent electronic switching Input impedance @ 1 kHz: 1MΩ
・Output impedance @ 1KHz: 1KΩ
・Power: 9V DC, 2.1 mm center negative, 50mA.
A regulated, isolated power supply of 100mA or greater is recommended. Battery operation is not possible.
