Description

The latest model in the Ready To Play series, the "SP1," which has the potential to be a game-changer, has finally arrived!

Dingwall basses have impressed first-call bassist Lee Sklar, who has participated in recordings and live performances with numerous famous artists, and have earned high praise from discerning bassists worldwide for their distinctive FANNED-FRET SYSTEM, body balance, and pickup placement. Dingwall's Novax Fanned-fret System delivers a crisp and punchy sound, which is then incorporated into traditional styles with exceptional design sense, resulting in a level of performance that feels completely natural.

The SP1 is the latest model in the ever-expanding Ready To Play series.
As the model name suggests, it draws heavily on inspiration from the Custom Shop Super P. The initial concept was to combine Leo Fender's iconic design philosophy with Dingwall Guitars' signature innovative features (such as the familiar multi-scale fretboard) to create a more affordable bass guitar.

■Body & Neck: This guitar features a traditional wood construction with an alder body, maple neck, and rosewood fingerboard, and a 22-fret multi-scale design ranging from 32 to 35 inches.
By reducing the body thickness, it achieves a lighter weight while delivering a more solid tone, and the smooth, rounded edges of the fingerboard sides and meticulous fretwork ensure stress-free playing.

■ Pickups & Electronics
The SP1, with its carefully selected tonewoods, Alnico pickups, and overall excellent build quality, is a superb passive bass that doesn't require active circuitry.
The controls consist of a master volume, rotary selector, and master tone. In the initial position of the rotary selector (clockwise to maximum), only the front pickup is selected. One click clockwise connects the front and rear pickups in series, another click connects them in parallel, and finally, the rear pickup alone is selected.
Dingwall spent many years refining the SP1 pickup design, and the results were so successful that they now use the same concept in their custom shop's "Super P" pickups.

■ Hardware
The Dingwall Minimalist bridge features a custom riser system designed for greater flexibility in string height adjustment.
When playing with aggressive techniques, individually raising the bridge saddles can put stress on the strings and potentially lead to premature breakage. However, this minimalist bridge allows you to raise the entire bridge unit. This means you can switch between high and low string heights simply by adjusting the shims, and the saddles can only be used for fine-tuning.
The tuners feature a lightweight open-gear design and also include a Bullet string retainer that maintains the correct break angle across the entire Graphtech nut.

■ Dingwall Strings
Dingwall strings undergo rigorous testing to maximize performance and deliver a tone that blends naturally with all styles of music. They were the first manufacturer to develop strings specifically for multi-scale instruments. Available in two materials, nickel and stainless steel, they achieve optimal balance with uniform tension, delivering warm highs and tight lows. (Dingwall nickel strings are factory-installed.)

~Comments from Sheldon Dingwall~
"It's no coincidence that the first bassists to recognize Dingwall's potential were session musicians who play and record bass on a daily basis. They were looking for a versatile instrument that combined studio-quality sound, comfortable playability, and simple operation. The Dingwall SP1 fulfills all of those requirements, and I believe many more bassists will be checking it out in the future."
