- Master Built Series -
In 2023, the Maton Custom Shop sadly closed its doors, bringing its history to a close.
The former custom shop was single-handedly supported by master luthier Andy Allen, who created many pieces that captivated guitar fans around the world, including renowned player Tommy Emmanuel.
Inheriting Andy's skills and spirit, and elevating them to an even higher level, the reborn Masterbuilt series is back!!
Made using specially selected materials and crafted by the skilled master builders at the Maton factory.
The MASTER BUILT-LEMay is a model that celebrates the long history of current owner Linda and Maton. It is the successor to the custom shop WA May, which was named after the founder and Linda's father, Bill May.
This guitar features a traditional shape with a deep body and a cutaway style. The soundboard is made of carefully selected, thick European spruce, and the sides and back are made of beautifully figured blackwood. The neck is also made of beautifully figured Queensland maple, and the fingerboard and bridge are made of ebony. The binding is made of rare satin boxwood, the purfling is BWB stripe, and the soundhole is fitted with a wooden rosette that perfectly harmonizes with the guitar.
It features a slightly smaller headstock modeled after the original Maton from the 1940s, and is characterized by its pinstripe-trimmed design.
The bracing uses the same European spruce wood as the top and employs an A-shape design for maximum performance. Scalloping is applied to achieve precise acoustic characteristics.
Another detail is the use of Graph Tech's ratio open-back tuning pegs. These pegs are excellent because their finely tuned gear ratios allow for a change of almost one whole tone with each turn of the peg, making it possible to tune quickly and accurately to a variety of tunings.
The pickup system installed is the familiar AP5-Pro. It allows for blending of a piezo pickup and a condenser microphone, realistically reproducing a natural airy feel and body hit sounds.
Overall, it boasts the characteristic rich and bright midrange of Maton guitars, but the fusion of carefully selected materials and expert craftsmanship results in an endlessly lustrous and high-quality tone.
It's a masterpiece.
I want to express my utmost respect to the masterbuilt team that created such a high-level instrument.
Don't miss this opportunity to acquire this truly exceptional item!
