A Precision Bass with the CBS-era Transition logo.

Crafted by a team of highly skilled artisans whose exceptional knowledge and techniques have been recognized, these custom shop products are truly what you would call the "ultimate Fender" of the modern era. Each guitar is meticulously made using only the finest materials, infused with the knowledge gained from vast production experience and the refined skills of master craftsmen.

This year's (2024) Time Machine Series regular lineup Precision Bass is the 1966 PRESICION BASS JOURNEYMAN RELIC. Around 1964, the Precision Bass headstock logo changed from the spaghetti logo to a transition logo with silver lettering and a black border. This instrument also features that logo. The position markers were also changed from clay dots to transparent pearloid, and the dot spacing at the 12th fret became narrower. This instrument is made with mother-of-pearl dot markers. The body is a two-piece alder construction, finished with a Journeyman Relic look that gives it a nice worn look and weather checking. The neck is a roundboard design, and the back of the neck is finished with an ultra-thin lacquer satin finish without stripping the paint, creating a punchy tone. Furthermore, this instrument also features a distinctive neck shape. The neck is custom-shaped with a thickness of 0.790 inches above the first fret, equivalent to the "'60 P BASS OVAL 'C'" shape, and a thickness of 0.950 inches above the twelfth fret, equivalent to the "'55 P BASS SOFT 'V'" shape. This results in a comfortable, clean thickness from the low to high positions.

This bass features hand-wound 65-70 P-BASS pickups. They deliver a tight, focused sound with powerful output, straight toning out a rich, harmonically rich tone. The percussive attack and robust tone resonate well across the entire frequency range, from low to high, providing a cohesive and impactful bass sound. The sweet, deep tone of the high-quality alder wood and the robust, energetic resonance characteristic of the roundboard are unique to this instrument. The moderately thin neck grip also contributes to smooth playability.

The simple aged natural finish gives it a distinctive look, and it's a great finish that embodies a robust and straightforward sound. This is a slightly niche Time Machine series that focuses on the transitional period of Precision Basses. If you look closely, you'll notice some rare specifications that make it an interesting instrument.
