Description

The Les Paul Custom, which debuted in 1954 as a Les Paul model for jazz musicians, boasted a luxurious look inherited from the high-end archtop guitars of the time. After various twists and turns, it has become a beloved instrument among rock musicians and remains an immensely popular guitar to this day.

This particular model is based on the specifications after minor changes since its re-release in 1968. It's a popular model, both in terms of looks and sound, from the era when it had a mahogany 3-piece neck and was shipped around 1974.

【body】
The overall weight is approximately 4.4 kg. The body is made of a 3-piece maple top and a pancake-structured mahogany back. While the Les Paul Custom is often associated with the ebony black color, this faded, brownish sunburst color also has a unique and very cool look. Overall, there are age-appropriate weather checks and dents, belt buckle marks on the back, and some peeling and tarnishing of the gold hardware, giving it a vintage feel, but it is in relatively good condition. The jack plate has been replaced.

【neck】
The neck is a 3-piece mahogany with a volute. The fingerboard is made of rare ebony. The back of the neck has been overcoated once due to fret/nut and tuner replacements. There is some weather checking around the inlay on the headstock, washer marks from when a different set of tuners was installed, and some small dents, but like the body, it is in relatively good condition. The tuners were once Grover, and are now fitted with new Kluson Deluxe tuners. The frets and nut have been replaced and show almost no wear, resulting in good playability. The nut width is 42.9mm. The neck shape has a comfortable thickness.

[Electrical System]
The controls are the familiar Les Paul model setup: a 3-way pickup selector, two volume controls, and two tone controls. The pickups are the original T-top humbuckers with their patent number stamped on them. It's great that the control components, including the pickups, have been kept in their original condition.

This guitar boasts a pleasingly resonant acoustic sound with rich harmonics, and a thick, solid tone backed by high-quality wood materials, including a three-piece mahogany neck. The moderately tight and articulate sound characteristic of humbuckers from this era offers a glossy, three-dimensional resonance in clean settings, and a powerful, impactful rock sound with thick mid-low frequencies in overdrive. It delivers a Les Paul Custom sound that combines thickness and edge.
