Gibson VINTAGE Les Paul Custom '70 Ebony Black

The Les Paul Custom, which debuted in 1954 as a Les Paul model for jazz musicians, boasted a luxurious look inherited from the high-end archtop guitars of the time. After many twists and turns, it has become a beloved instrument among rock musicians and remains an immensely popular guitar to this day.

This particular unit, which arrived in stock this time, is a minorly modified version from the 1968 re-release, shipped around 1970. It's a great find for players, as it has had its worn parts replaced.

【body】
The total weight is approximately 4.35 kg. The body is made of a maple top and a mahogany back with a pancake construction. While the Les Paul Custom is strongly associated with the ebony black color, this one has a very cool, sharp look. There is some weather checking and minor dents commensurate with its age, paint chipping on the back from a belt buckle, and some peeling and tarnishing of the gold hardware, giving it a vintage guitar feel, but the condition of the body binding and the shine of the paint are good. The bridge saddle has been replaced with a brass one.

【neck】
The neck is made of three-piece mahogany with a volute. The fingerboard is made of rare ebony. There is some weather checking at the seam of the pieces on the back of the headstock, on the top of the headstock, and some dents around the headstock, but it is in relatively good condition. The tuners are Kluson VX-501 waffle pegs, and they function well with little variation in winding. The frets and nut have been replaced, and the playability is very good. The nut width is 42.7mm. The sturdy neck shape is one of the charms of this guitar.

[Electrical System]
The controls are the familiar Les Paul models: a 3-way pickup selector, front position volume, front position tone, rear position volume, and rear position tone. The pickups are original T-top numbered pickups with their original decal stickers. The capacitors are also original Sprague Black Beauty capacitors, and the control system parts, including the pickups, are in excellent condition, just as they were back then.

Based on a rich, resonant tone with pleasant harmonics and a thick tone underpinned by wood materials, the plugged-in sound is impressive with its core response and tight, clear mid-to-high frequencies, characteristic of materials from that era. The clean sound has a crisp, glossy tone and a clear, articulate attack, while the high-gain sound is appealing for its thick, dry, and powerful drive sound reminiscent of the rock/blues-rock sounds of that time.
