In November 2025, Hartman Guitars Chief Akita visited the Eastman factory.
While there, I was fortunate enough to come across a "premium grade Hawaiian koa" with exquisite flame grain (bari-traditional figured grain), a type of wood that has become extremely rare to see in recent years.
This is an extremely rare material that you can't get your hands on just by visiting the factory; you might never come across it unless the timing is right.
This special project was made possible thanks to the close communication we've maintained with Eastman.

Based on the specifications of the company's flagship model "E-40D," and utilizing the finest tonewoods that were secured at this miraculous timing, the all-koa custom "CTM ML-40D -Premium Hawaiian Koa-" has been completed, reminiscent of the "Martin D-42 K2."


■ The "ML" prefix in the name of handcrafted products from the top-of-the-line "Master Luthier Series" is a mark of Eastman's highest-end line, the "Master Luthier Series."
This instrument is made by a top team of highly skilled craftsmen from the Eastman factory, who also handle the production of Beaujolais brand's "Touchstone" and "Down East" series.
The craftsman's advanced woodworking skills and meticulous attention to tone are evident in every detail, from carefully assessing the density and elasticity of each piece of wood to hand-carving the bracing.

■A magnificent and opulent appearance created by the combination of premium koa and 40-style construction. Rare premium koa is used generously for the body top, sides, and back.
The dazzling abalone inlay work, characteristic of the No. 40 style, combined with the beautifully raised tiger stripe grain, elevates this piece to a sophisticated and dignified look that instantly satisfies the desire to own it.
Furthermore, the body binding features flame maple as an accent, further enhancing the beautiful color of the Hawaiian koa wood.

The rich overtones produced by the abalone inlay, a characteristic of the 40-style, harmonize beautifully with the bright, sparkling tone unique to high-quality Hawaiian koa wood.
The rich sound pressure and deep bass unique to the dreadnought size combine to create an overwhelming presence when strumming chords, as well as producing a beautiful resonance even in delicate solo playing.
