Josh Smith is a blues guitarist from Florida.
Josh, who started playing guitar at the age of six, was hailed as a blues prodigy by the age of twelve, and he remains a highly skilled guitarist who continues to hone his guitar playing skills throughout his career.
Beyond his own blues band activities, he is active in a wide range of fields, including participating in tours with famous artists, and he performed with Mick Jagger at the 2011 Grammy Awards.
His flexible and sophisticated guitar style, which incorporates elements of jazz, funk, and country into a bluesy sound, has earned him high praise from legends such as Michael Landau and Joe Bonamassa, making him truly one of the leading blues guitarists of our time.


◆Slab body
Following the tradition of single-cutaway guitars, it features a slab body shape without body contouring.
Compared to models with contours, you can feel the body's resonance more strongly.

◆Seymour Duncan FLAT5 pickups
It features Seymour Duncan FLAT5 pickups developed specifically for the FLATV. It combines a vintage-voiced humbucker mounted with a hot-rod-style escutcheon with a single-coil pickup that delivers a bright, thick, twangy sound thanks to the combination of multiple Alnico magnets.

◆Steel pickup mounting plate
The single-coil pickups are mounted using a plate-mount system (steel, Ibanez original), which is essential for a clear, fat, and twangy tone.

◆Specially designed Control plate
The hardtail models in the FLATV and AZS series feature a curved, original-design control plate to improve accessibility to all knobs and switches.

◆Ibanez F1803 bridge
This hardtail bridge, specifically designed for the FLATV and AZS series, features Gotoh & Ibanez In-Tune custom saddles. It makes direct contact with the body and, combined with the titanium saddles, provides excellent resonance and long sustain.

◆Gotoh/Ibanez co-designed In-Tune saddles
While 3-way saddles are an essential element for the sound of single-cut/flat-top guitars, they have historically been problematic in terms of intonation and tuning accuracy. Gotoh's In-Tune saddle addresses this by incorporating string grooves into the saddle surface, improving intonation accuracy. These grooves also have the added benefit of preventing string slippage, a common issue with classic-style saddles.
Inheriting that design philosophy, the Gotoh & Ibanez In-Tune saddle was specially developed for this purpose.
First, taking into account the preferences of modern guitarists who favor skipping and hybrid picking, we set the string spacing to 10.5mm (commercially available In-Tune models are 10.8mm).
To ensure consistent string spacing, it is preferable for each saddle to have a small incline. To achieve this, Gotoh & Ibanez In-Tune saddles have slightly deeper string grooves for the 1st and 6th strings than the other strings, preventing each saddle from becoming excessively low on the outside.
Furthermore, by designing the sides of the saddle with a gentle rounded shape, the friction between the saddle edges against each other minimizes the disruption of the string spacing.

◆Special Control knobs for FLATV
The control knobs, newly designed specifically for FLATV, showcase Josh's meticulous attention to detail, from their height and diameter to the size of the knurling (indentations).

◆FLATV free heel
It features a traditional four-point steel plate joint.

◆S-TECH WOOD Roasted Maple neck
The neck is made of maple wood treated with S-Tech nitrogen heat treatment technology. S-Tech treated wood has characteristics such as shape stability, resistance to warping, water resistance, and resistance to temperature changes, and is a patented technology in Japan.

◆FLATV Neck Shape

The FLATV features a unique soft V-shaped neck profile unlike any other Ibanez guitar to date. Combined with the rigidity and smooth texture of Estech maple, this neck offers exceptional playability.

◆Bone nut
We used oil-impregnated cow bone nuts.
This design significantly contributes to tuning stability by improving the smoothness of the strings and nut, as well as enhancing resonance.

◆Gotoh machine heads
It features Gotoh Kluson-type machine heads, known for their excellent tuning stability.
