Founded in 1979, Sadowsky Guitars established the "Active JB" style, now adopted by many manufacturers, through modifying instruments for New York studio musicians, including the famous Marcus Miller's '77 JB, and manufacturing instruments under its own brand. It is a brand that has proposed new possibilities for bass sound to the music scene since the 1980s. With a sound variation that can accommodate all musical genres, low noise, and a focus on functionality, Sadowsky instruments have always been with musicians and continue to evolve.
"-Born in New York City, Built in Germany-"
This instrument is a custom shop model manufactured at the German factory under the supervision of Roger Sadowsky. While inheriting the highly regarded Sadowsky circuit known for its practical sound, it leverages the strengths of the factory, which has abundant woodstock and state-of-the-art equipment, to produce high-quality basses in a wide variety of styles. Among them, the "Custom Shop" series is the pinnacle of current Sadowsky models, closely following the NYC model that has been loved by many musicians.
This instrument is a 4-string model featuring the familiar Dinky shape from the Sadowsky brand. It has 21 frets and adopts a style without a pickguard or control panel. (Note: Although this style normally corresponds to "Standard," this instrument will be named "Vintage" according to the included spec sheet.) Compared to a typical JB type, the significantly slimmer body offers excellent playability and contributes to the modern sound character that is characteristic of Sadowsky.
The body top is made of beautifully figured bubinga wood. This wood was chosen from photographs of various pieces of wood shown to us by the Warwick family during their visit to Japan, and we were captivated by its flame-like shimmering grain and the sapwood grain running through the center. This model also features a matching headstock, using the same wood for both the headstock and the top. The body back is made of alder, a classic tonewood. While no special selection process was conducted for this part, the wood chosen has an exceptionally even grain, further highlighting the fact that Warwick's German factory is one of the world's leading suppliers of high-quality wood. This body, like the NYC model, features a chambered body and a bent top. The pickups are J-type pickups with hum-canceling construction. Combined with the 2-band EQ and tone control, they create a wide range of sounds. This particular instrument was ordered as a fretless model, a style that has garnered strong support not only in the past NYC models but also in current German-made models. The fingerboard is made of a deep black ebony as specified by our shop, and the side dots are as usual. The fret lines are "Quarter Line Riboulan inlays," which are placed only on the 4th string side, except for the 12th fret.
With its fretless design and alder body, this model is the complete opposite of the so-called "NY sound," but the resonance produced by the high-quality materials and the familiar sound created by the electronics are unmistakably "Sadowsky," and you will experience that for yourself. Furthermore, the rich and deep resonance residing beneath the clear tone, which is characteristic of modern German-made instruments, is especially strongly felt in a serious fretless design. This is a high-quality fretless bass that we ordered with confidence. The look and sound are exactly as we imagined, and we couldn't help but smile when we received it. Please come and experience this instrument that we waited three years for.
